Really Good Upholstery for a Couch

I have a 10 year old sectional couch, and the claw damage from the car has gotten to be too unsightly. It’s time to reupholster! Last time, I got upholstery from Knoll because I trusted them to be long lasting and relatively stain resistant. I’ve ordered some samples from them but I wonder where else I should be looking. Looking for a safe dry cleaning solvent for my couch.

I've had my couch for about five years and vacuum it from time to time. After years of heavy use it's starting to gross me out a bit. According to the manufacturer's website the upholstery is rated "S", so apparently I can only use dry cleaning solvents. Are there any that are safe to use around young children and indoors? The cat is coming from inside the couch.

My little monsters - always innovating in the art of destroying our precious few pieces of furniture - have recently dug a hole through the bottom of the couch and enjoy climbing inside the guts to make a private crazytime leisure fort. I've temporarily covered the hole(s) with aluminum foil, but ... what fabric can I replace it with that will be tougher and more resistant to their future couch-fort spelunking?

How much will it cost to reüpholster these chairs?

I just bought this chair and another just like it. I love them...except for the floral upholstery on the cushions. The green upholstery I am into. How much, more or less, will it cost me to reupholster just those floral parts? The bottom cushion comes off; the back one is attached. I'll also go ahead and get new foam for both because it's a little too soft, what's on there. I think the fabrics I was looking at ran about $25/yard.

rough / abraded upholstery after professional cleaning - is this normal?

We just had our couch, ottoman and thick, dense rug professionally cleaned. Now the couch and ottoman have a rough, crusty texture that the carpet guy said "will go away with use" - but they're pretty unpleasant to sit on right now. Both couch and rug look aged - like they were scraped pretty harshly. Is this normal? I was hoping having them cleaned would lengthen their lives, not shorten them. If not, what should I look out for to select a better cleaner next time? This outfit had pretty good yelp reviews. [more inside]

Anyone have experience with Eco-friendly upholstery cleaning?

I had someone come out to clean my light-colored sofa, which gets pretty dirty because I have a dog. The guy used eco-friendly cleaning products and, $100 later, my sofa seems to me no cleaner than before he came. I'm wondering if this is because eco-friendly products just don't cut it and I need to go with the old-school, harsher chemicals, or whether my sofa is just too dirty to be cleaned. I'm thinking the former, but I'd hate to shell out another $100 bucks and still be left with a dirty sofa. I wonder if anyone has firsthand experience with this.

Sprucing up my sweet secondhand sofa

Help me clean my couch

We have a two-year old sofa that looks terrible and needs to be cleaned. The upholstery is 100% light-colored polyester that looks like linen. The problem is that any water leaves a very noticeable ring on the fabric. Although we're pretty good about keeping food and drinks off the couch, we have a very drippy-nosed greyhound who has left dozens of little drip marks all over the cushions. Cleaning with water and a wet rag only makes the problem worse. I also tried using Goddard's Dry Cleaning fluid (a solvent), which just left a whitish spot. Any suggestions? Would hiring a professional do the trick?
