Loosing the connection
Very recently, some websites seem to be blocked on Safari. I can access them from Firefox. First it was twitter (I'm not a user), then youtube, then WaPo. And today it is MetaFilter!! I've checked the settings and I can't see I have blocked anything.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any idea what is happening?
I don't really mind using Firefox, since I have to, for work. But it is an adjustment, and it's weird.
Safari spooking
When I open Safari, I get a generic page with favorite sites above and frequently visited sites below. I've never bothered to edit it, since it does it's job fine. Till today, that is. Today among the frequently visited is the site of my former workplace. How can that happen? [more inside]

turn off 'wa' shortcut in Safari?
In Safari (11.1) on a Mac (10.12.6) when I type 'wa' in the address bar Safari interprets that to mean 'Wolfram Alpha' and loads the site, placing the rest of what I have typed into Wolfram Alpha's search and returning the results. [more inside]

This should be SO simple: is there a Safari extension that will replace a word or phrase with one of my choosing? Fake example: whenever the word "dog" occurs on a page, replace it with "fluffy happy beast" so I never have to see the word "dog" again. Mac Safari zombie "Siri suggestions" - please die already!
I am on a mid-2015 MacBook Pro, on High Sierra 10.13.3 and using Safari 11.0.3, and earlier today I used the handy "force click" feature to preview a link (i.e. it comes up as a smaller image instead of going to the actual page in the main browser window) to a website that I had a bad feeling about. The offending site is a popular (though not usually malicious) click-baity site that I tend to avoid, and unfortunately, despite clearing "cookies and data" a million times, the offending site still pops up after typing a certain word in my Safari search bar. Yes, I know I can just turn off Siri suggested websites, but how did the offending website (which I won't call out by name unless I really have to) weasel its way into Siri's suggestions, despite the fact I never actually navigated to it? Why doesn't deleting history, cookies, and data do anything about it?

How do I get rid of these search suggestions?
When I click on the address bar in Safari on my iPhone, I’m given suggested search terms based on the content of the page. I’m a recent survivor of sexual assault, and sometimes the suggested search terms are distressing to me, as in this example. How do I turn these suggestions off? I do not want to turn off typing suggestions in general, as I use those extensively.

How Do I Disable Google's "Related Searches" Display on iOS Safari?
Google insists on gobbling screen space by displaying a stack of "Related searches" at the bottom of every search results page (Safari, iPad Pro).
How do I disable this? All "Suggestions" entries in Settings->Safari are turned off. I don't see anything useful in Google's search settings.

My iPad has stopped showing images in Safari. Why?
About four days ago, my iPad stopped showing images in web pages--there's either a grayed out box where they should be or they're just missing. All the text loads fine, it really just looks like image resources are deciding not to load. This happens in Safari, and in Safari view controller views like Tweetbot (so it's Webkit-wide?) Force quit Safari, restarted, still broken. Upgraded it from 9.2 to 9.3.1 this morning, and same thing. Did I toggle some setting inadvertently? Or is this a bug, and if so, how do I fix it?
iPad mini performance issues (model md544a/b)

Some problems with Safari for iPhone
I have a 15 gig iPhone of the previous generation, and the Safari web browser has had some interesting quirks of late. When I've left websites with logins unattended for more than, say, thirty seconds, I automatically get logged out (even when I've clicked the "keep me logged in" box on the login page). More recently, the cache has "forgotten" the URLs for websites I frequent. I've set "never" to the Block Cookies option in settings. What can I do to get Safari to keep me logged in and to cache/remember the sites I visit?

Opening files in an application, like Firefox, only not Firefox
I am on a mac, and reluctantly use Firefox right now for some of my work. Firefox on the mac has become so slow and boggy, it is painful to work on. However, I download a lot of jpegs from webpages, and in Firefox, you can have the file automatically open with one click in Photoshop (or any other software), without having to download, go to the finder, and so forth.
Is that feature available in either Chrome or Safari? I have done some googling, but can't seem to find anything.

Using Safari on iPad Air with Chrome on Mac
I've been using Chrome on my Mac and Safari on my iPad Air. Trying to get them both to sync with each other is a challenge. I used a Safari on Mac for a short while recently to keep the two perfectly in sync but I've since switched back to a Chrome on my Mac as it is just a quicker and nicer to use browser. On my iPad Air I've installed Chrome but nothing beats Safari on the iPad as it's smoother and uses a faster rendering engine. Chrome on iOS is a bit sluggish and doesn't feel comfortable to use.
Is there a way that I can sync my Chrome bookmarks and settings on my Mac with Safari on my iPad?

I want the forward/back controls in my browser on iPad to be at the bottom of the screen, same as they are on my iPhone. I don't see any way to do this in Safari or Chrome. My thumb insists on doing it the iPhone way (and quite logically because that's where my thumb already is while holding the device). It is driving me crazy. Please tell me there's a way.

How to download videos in Safari 7.0 like could be done on Snow Leopard?
I'm all ready to upgrade to Mavericks (OSX 10.9) except for one thing.
On Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I am able to open Safari's "Activity window" and see most video files as they're loading there (however, not certain sites like Hulu). From that window, it's an easy Option-Click to download said video file. Safari 7.0 doesn't have this ability. Is there a Safari 7.0 add-on or something that will bring this ability back to Safari?
