Good middle age group graphic novels for a woke 9 year old girl
As above! I saw her reading Nnedi Okorafor’s Ikenga. Shippable to US on not amazon would be great. Very social justice orientated family. Thank you!
What graphic novel do I want for Christmas?
I want to receive a graphic novel for Christmas. In the past I have loved Maus (like who didn't?), Bechdel's Fun Home, Roz Chast's Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant? and Sattouf's The Arab of the Future.
Given these favorites, what others might I like?
How can I find someone to illustrate some recent experiences of mine?
Unfortunately my budget is rather limited but can anyone please suggest how I can find an illustrator to produce some short pieces? I am thinking akin to a Graphic novel - Harvey Pekar / Crumb, Sacco, Guy Delize type style + scenario. I have made some basic jottings with pages into squares and ideas of dialogue representing some very challenging experiences I think may be of interest to some small group of others out there. Any suggestions gratefully received.

“You can't just go round murdering people. There are rules, Nimona.”
Daughter, voracious reader, aged 11. I'd like some graphic novel suggestions. Read and enjoyed: Nimona, Amulet, Ghosts. Knows more about than anyone else on earth: Warrior Cats. Adored: Goodnight Stories for Rebel Girls.
I'd prefer stories that are age appropriate (so a lack of sex and drugs) and I'd also prefer to steer away from things based on cartoons (e.g. Adventure Time, even if I might be able to smuggle some Meredith Gran into her reading that way). What are the classics? What's new that she might enjoy?
Comic Book Upgrade - Graphic Novels for 14 year old boy
Looking for Graphic Novels for a 14 year old boy. He loves Garfield, slap stick movies (Airplane, Naked gun), and is into Star Wars. Looking for recommendations that are not violent and that you may find at a public library.
Thanks!
Help me find something as good as Zita the Spacegirl for my kids?
I have been reading Zita the Spacegirl to my kids (7 & 5, boy and girl) very night. For those who haven't read it, it is a terrific graphic novel for kids full of adventure and strange creatures, with a great message. What else would you reccomend, as we approach the end of this great series? Specifically thinking of a modern, adventure-filled (but not overly mature) graphic novel or series. Science fiction or fantasy would be ideal.
Resources on Alan Moore's process
I couldn't find any information as to how Alan Moore goes about writing his comics (namely Watchmen, V for Vendetta, and From Hell). I found an excerpt from his Watchmen script which shows how incredibly detailed he is in describing each panel. I once read that on Watchmen, it was a back-and-forth between him and Dave Gibbons, where Gibbons starts off with roughly sketching out the panels, gets comments from Moore, gets greenlit, then proceeds to drawing the final version. Any more information on Moore's process? Any other scripts you know of and is his writing as detailed for all his projects as detailed (I know that From Hell has labyrinthine appendices that almost match the work itself in length for example)?
Hivemind suggestions for a newbie
Graphicnovelfilter : I am very much a novice when it comes to graphic novels but have enjoyed the realist works of Joe Sacco (The Fixer & Palestine) and The Burma Chronicles (Guy Delise) initially kickstarted along time ago by my stumbling upon Harvey Pekar (American Splendour). What other graphic novels of this nature should I be tracking down? I'm interested in International Relations / Politics / History / Travel / Journalism / Espionage - as well as more esoteric perspectives on the world - so anything ticking these boxes would be great.
Totally niche!

Boom! Thwak! War and Comics
PS240: Boom! Thwak! War and Comics. I teach in the political science department at a small liberal arts college, and I'm fortunate to have quite a bit of flexibility in new course design. For 2010-2011, I'm putting together a new course on war and comics/graphic novels. Awesome, right? I know. But what else goes on the syllabus? [more inside]

What can I learn from comic books?
I like to learn things, but textbooks are boring! I find comic books gripping in ways that normal books aren't. Can you all offer examples of educational, information-rich comic books (or, if you prefer, "graphic novels")? [more inside]
epistolary comic books and books
Has anyone done an epistolary comic book? It's not obvious to me how such a project could work and I'm interested in seeing what, if anything, artists have done with the form. I'm also interested in recommendations for good epistolary novels. I've already looked at the wikipedia page on epistolary novels and I plan to read some of the novels mentioned there.
