turn off 'wa' shortcut in Safari?
In Safari (11.1) on a Mac (10.12.6) when I type 'wa' in the address bar Safari interprets that to mean 'Wolfram Alpha' and loads the site, placing the rest of what I have typed into Wolfram Alpha's search and returning the results. [more inside]
Help me help someone get back into Gmail on Chrome
So my best friend, in a medicated haze, logged herself out of Gmail in Chrome on a Mac, and doesn't remember the password. She is still logged in on her iPhone, but that's inconvenient for many reasons. Help me get her logged back in -- I think this is simple but there are some mitigating factors. See inside. AdBlock and MetaFilter (and NYROB)
Since yesterday-ish (so, since 8/22), there's apparently been some sort of change in either my installation of AdBlock (Safari, current MacOS) and Metafilter. When I load MeFi, I get the text, but clearly none of the CSS. [more inside]
Mac Safari zombie "Siri suggestions" - please die already!
I am on a mid-2015 MacBook Pro, on High Sierra 10.13.3 and using Safari 11.0.3, and earlier today I used the handy "force click" feature to preview a link (i.e. it comes up as a smaller image instead of going to the actual page in the main browser window) to a website that I had a bad feeling about. The offending site is a popular (though not usually malicious) click-baity site that I tend to avoid, and unfortunately, despite clearing "cookies and data" a million times, the offending site still pops up after typing a certain word in my Safari search bar. Yes, I know I can just turn off Siri suggested websites, but how did the offending website (which I won't call out by name unless I really have to) weasel its way into Siri's suggestions, despite the fact I never actually navigated to it? Why doesn't deleting history, cookies, and data do anything about it?

Setting my default search engine to Duck Duck Go

Opening files in an application, like Firefox, only not Firefox
I am on a mac, and reluctantly use Firefox right now for some of my work. Firefox on the mac has become so slow and boggy, it is painful to work on. However, I download a lot of jpegs from webpages, and in Firefox, you can have the file automatically open with one click in Photoshop (or any other software), without having to download, go to the finder, and so forth.
Is that feature available in either Chrome or Safari? I have done some googling, but can't seem to find anything.
Using Safari on iPad Air with Chrome on Mac
I've been using Chrome on my Mac and Safari on my iPad Air. Trying to get them both to sync with each other is a challenge. I used a Safari on Mac for a short while recently to keep the two perfectly in sync but I've since switched back to a Chrome on my Mac as it is just a quicker and nicer to use browser. On my iPad Air I've installed Chrome but nothing beats Safari on the iPad as it's smoother and uses a faster rendering engine. Chrome on iOS is a bit sluggish and doesn't feel comfortable to use.
Is there a way that I can sync my Chrome bookmarks and settings on my Mac with Safari on my iPad?

How to download videos in Safari 7.0 like could be done on Snow Leopard?
I'm all ready to upgrade to Mavericks (OSX 10.9) except for one thing.
On Snow Leopard (10.6.8), I am able to open Safari's "Activity window" and see most video files as they're loading there (however, not certain sites like Hulu). From that window, it's an easy Option-Click to download said video file. Safari 7.0 doesn't have this ability. Is there a Safari 7.0 add-on or something that will bring this ability back to Safari? Safari Bookmark That Controls Scroll Position

It used to work....(snivel)
My Mac used to be able to get RSS feeds of my Ebay searches with Safari but lately all I get is a list links with photos that never seems to update. Googling doesn't turn up any body having the same issue, so what am I doing wrong? Craigslist and Kijiji search feeds still work fine. [more inside]
You didn't really want to post that to MeFi, did you? Oops!
The latest versions of Firefox and Safari that can run on my Mac Intel G4 tower (OS X 10.4.11) keep crashing when I open more than one video in separate tabs or windows on YouTube or Hulu. The problem isn't consistent, but it does seem to happen when I have at least 7 or 8 tabs open at once. Can anyone help me solve this? [more inside]

How to fix download links in Safari?
When I click download links (to .zip, .dmg, etc...) in Safari on my Mac running Snow Leopard, it does nothing. Dam you firefox, why can't you be more like Safari?
I love Firefox. I love using the Fox. I love the warm and fuzzy feeling I get from using opensource software.
But, I am drawn to Safari, and for only one feature. I love the way Safari handles PDFs. I like how it opens them in the blink of an eye, letting me view the PDF and then save it with the click of a button (overlay? whatever).
What I'm wondering is, is there any way to get the same behaviour in Firefox. I'm relatively new to Macs (soon to be 1 year), so I'm not too familiar with all the ins and outs, but I assume it is somehow connected to Preview.app.
There was an earlier attempt at doing something similar on ask.MeFi, but that didn't really lead anywhere. Google searching doesn't help either.
In case you are wondering, I like this because I deal with a lot of PDF files (journal articles, woo). I'd consider switching to Safari as a main browser if it wasn't for the little differences (FF3's address bar, Command+1/2/3/4/etc, copious amount of extensions).
Aquify Safari 3 form elements?
What should I put in a custom browser stylesheet to override and Aquify all web form element styles (buttons, text fields, etc.) in Safari 3.0.4? I'd like to undo custom properties like colors, fonts, and borders, and make all form elements display natively, using Aqua, like Safari used to do in previous versions. I'm essentially looking for the opposite answer to this question, using a custom userContent.css-esque stylesheet. (Thanks for your help.)

Better Browser for the Mac
I need a better browser for my Mac. I use a MacBook Pro 17". For the past year, I've been using Safari as my default browser. I like it swell except that it crashes all the frickin' time. I've installed SAFT, which allows me to restore my browsing sessions, but still -- it's a pain. Last weekend, I moved over to Firefox in the hopes that things would be improved. That's not going to work. What's with the delays for nearly every action? Ugh. (No extensions installed.) I don't yet have Leopard, but am willing to upgrade if Safari 3 offers a marked improvement in performance. What can I do to improve my web browsing experience? (Session restore is a must. Undo closed tabs is nice.) [more inside]

Why can't my Keychain.app settings work for both Safari and Camino?
I typically use Safari, and have my preferences set to store all of my passwords and user names in my Keychain.app. However when it starts acting up and giving me the spinning beach ball, I use Camino (v. 1.0.3.) When I try to log in to a website, it asks me for my user name and password - do I really have to fill in ALL those passwords and user names all over again? In other words, is there any way I can get Camino to access the passwords I saved using Safari? [more inside]
