I have my entire iTunes library on an external hard drive. I have a computer that has no problem accessing the iTunes library on the external hard drive, but for any other purpose refuses to acknowledge the existence of said drive, because it's a powerpc external hard drive. I would like to figure out how to transfer my iTunes library to a brand new external hard drive to use with my new mac. [more inside]
Sluggish iTunes despite following steps
I have my iTunes on an external 1 TB USB drive for iMac (10.6). It is around 250 GB. Despite following the steps of moving the itl and other files to my computer Itunes folder as layed out nicelly in this link among others (look at user roncron's commments at bottom of page). ITunes is still sluggish when deleting tracks especially. I have 3GB RAM, not using any other item while running iTunes, and Activity Monitor doesn't show any large discrepancies of things running in the background (unless I am looking at it wrong).
Maybe my computer is just too old or needs 4 GB of RAM. thanks.
How to run both Mt Lion and Leopard on the same MacPro?
I've got an early 2008 Harpertown MacPro that's running 10.5.8 and I'm about to install an SSD into it and put Mt Lion on that, keeping the Leopard drive in there as a multi-boot option for when I need some of the old apps on that. Seems like that'll work, but if anybody's got any tips or caveats, etc., I'd love to hear 'em! A bit more detail... [more inside]

Macs and Samsung TA550 - fuzzy image
Hi Everyone
I have a Macbook Air with Thunderbolt (mid 2011) and a Mac Mini 3.1. Can anyone help me with the correct display settings for a Samsung TA550? I have searched - to no avail. Also trying out SwitchResX.
What bugs me is that XP of all things seems to work properly with the display.

Save mail, clean install

Completely new to Mac/OS X. What do I need to know?
My father-in-law replaced his old Mac Mini with a newer Mac, so he asked me if I wanted the Mini.

Customizing the Guest Account
Mac Leopard operating system: Can I customize the user icon and desktop wallpaper of the guest account?
The default user icon for the guest account is a male silhouette; I would like to change it, but it does not give this option in the system preferences like it does for standard user accounts.
Also, the default desktop wallpaper for the guest account is the outer space picture. It goes back to this desktop on every log in. I would like the guest account wallpaper to be a professional logo.

Cross-Platform Crashing on a Macbook Pro
I have Leopard and Windows 7 (7057) installed on my Late 2007 (possibly older, I got it refurbished) Macbook Pro 15". My problem is, every time I boot into either OS, I get a kernel panic or BSOD respectively.
The fact that it happens in 2 different operating systems makes me almost positive that it's a hardware problem. Unfortunately, I don't know very much about computer hardware, so I don't really know what to troubleshoot first, and I don't want to void the warranty by opening the case (I plan to take it to the Apple Store if nobody here can solve the problem).
Specifically, either operating system will crash about a minute into booting up. I don't think the problem can be too serious because everything graphically looks fine and all my files are intact. This leads me to think that maybe it's a RAM problem, and that it runs out of memory and crashes during bootup. [more inside]

Why can't my Macbook remember preferences settings?
I recently had to do an Archive and Install of Leopard on my Macbook, due to the fact that it suddenly got stuck on a blue screen (the irony) on boot. Now, everything seems fine, except for the fact that some of my preferences don't "stick," so, for example, each time I tell the OS to open .doc files with Pages, it works for a day or so, but then, .doc files start automatically opening with TextEdit. Man Attempting to Move Leopard
Great MeFites, I come bearing but a humble request. I bought a MacBook Pro about six months before Leopard was released. When it finally came out, I installed it on a partition on an external drive, which I would boot from (because OS X is awesome like that, amirite?) so I could test out all my apps. Thinking Of Getting A G4 iBook Or PowerBook
I've currently got a HP Mini-Note 2133 running Ubuntu. I was going to take a stab at installing OS X on it this coming weekend when I realized I could get a 12" iBook or PowerBook G4 for roughly the same price and it would still be small enough I wouldn't mind carrying it around with me all the time and it would run OS X with no hassle. I'd keep my MacPro as my primary workstation that I use for image editing and such, this would just be for email and for surfing the web on the go. If I get a G4 era laptop and install Leopard on it (want to use Back to My Mac after I roll my own dot mac) will I have any issues? I've only recently become a Mac user after years on Linux, so I never used a PPC-based system. Will application like Camino, Mail, Adium, etc all run with no problems? This is what the universal binary thing is all about, right?
Anything else I should be aware of? Any tips or tricks for slimming down 10.5 to make it run better on the older hardware?
