Two days In LA
will be in LA for a week in late July but only 2 days are mine.
Alone, staying near the Getty. As I have not been in this city for more than a day in 40 years and aside from seeing the Getty, would love any recommendations of food, entertainment, neighborhoods to walk (if such a thing even exists here).
Satisfying late evening cravings for something tasty
Of late I have a hunger for something tasty and perhaps sweet an hour or 2 after dinner and nearing the time I all go to bed.
Tell me some of your favorite ways to satisfy that in a healthy way please. I can't eat chocolate.
Pork makes me sick
Last couple of years i notice that 2-4 hours after eating pork, (with the exception of cured pork like bacon) I feel sick: achy, stomach ache, vaguely feverish.
My father admits he hasn't eaten pork in years but simply says; Just don't really like it i guess. But then he recalls that his father couldn't tolerate it. Made him sick.
Poking around the internet I can't really find a reasonable explanation for this.
Thoughts?

Help me find some really great gourmet foods that are available through Amazon Prime.
New York City Travel Question
Will be traveling to NY this summer for work for a week.
Need to spend days on upper east side (5th and 104th). Nights I am free. Like to be able to walk to restaurants, windows browsing, perhaps some jazz.
Any advice on what neighborhoods to look for hotels? I realize with the transit options perhaps this question doesn't make much sense, but I would rather not spend a lot of time or money in transit.
And if you wouldn't mind suggesting some favorite gems of neighborhood restaurants, places that might be worth the trouble to get to?
Could Yelp be made useful?
My experience using Yelp is that it increasingly sucks. Highly reviewed places can range from decent to abysmal and there is no telling. But one can find some reviewers who seem consistently accurate, and while yelp allows you to follow these folks, it would be much easier if you could FILTER with these folks , but Yelp seems not to want that to happen, for obvious commercial reasons.
Could someone develop some way to do that on top of the web site?
And if Yelp is unusable for quality reviews, besides CH where else do folks recommend?
THanks!
Chicago Restaurants for Locavores Updates?
A 2009 question by the same title (http://ask.metafilter.com/141735/Chicago-Restaurants-for-Cheap-Locavores) with loads of good advice, but 2 years in the restaurant world can be a long time and it is not so critical to be in that 30-40$ range (though 195 before tax and tip is a stretch). Will be there for three nights in May. Any places that speak to the intersection of community and food would be of interest as well as those with wow factor for food (ambiance not so important)
will be at hyatt regency
Gourmet food recs
Can anyone recommend some nice Gourmet and non-mass market Food finds: specialty producers that you know of that are really making something noteworthy and good as a possible small gift to friends and family; not along the lines of one of the ever present catalogues
