cool function curves?

I'm working on some AI music algorithms and need mathematical curves on which to base certain aspects. What are the equations/names of some beautiful/interesting/unusual 2D function curves?

Easiest way to learn these programs?

I would love to learn Autodesk 3ds Max (my goal is to use it for 3d architectural and product visualization) and Adobe Premiere Pro (I need to study the technical aspects of editing and hopefully move on to other offline and online NLEs). I fear at this point in my life, it might be too late to embark on such career-changing endeavors, especially that the learning curves for both these programs are reputably steep. What is the easiest and best way to learn these programs, and can I do it on my own? [more inside]

Longitude lines in perspective, what shape are they?

I'm drawing/painting a globe (in time lapse, so the sun appears to rise) and trying to figure out what shape, exactly, the longitude (not latitude) lines are when a globe is flattened into a circle (I know I can just trace them, but I've gotten curious). So, the outermost longitude lines are tangent to the circle, they are half-circles, and the centermost line is a straight line from pole to pole, it's the progressively flatter curves in between that I'm trying to figure out. Do they have a name? Are they catenaries? Are they the curves of progressively larger circles? How do I construct them (easily)? Example image: HERE

Getting multiple Outlook task and contacts folders on Blackberry

I use Outlook pretty heavily at home - not for email, but for everything else (calendar, tasks, contacts lists). This includes keeping various tasks folders (e.g. To Do This Week, To Do Soon, Errands, Music to Download) and a few contacts folders (e.g. Personal, Business, Online Accounts (where I keep my login info and other details for my many online accounts)). I decided to go with a Blackberry for my first smart phone because it sounded like it would be the one that would most smoothly mesh with the Outlook info on my PC so that I could have my calendar/task/contact info in both places at all times. I was prepared to do daily (or more) syncs between my PC and phone to make this happen. Per the question title, I got a Blackberry Curve. Alas, it turns out that I was sorely mistaken. The Curve (and who knows how many other versions of BB before and since) allows only one folder each for tasks and for contacts on the device. I'm an individual user (not a corporate user) and don't use (or want to use) Exchange Server - although I don't think that would help this particular problem anyway. So is there anything I can do to get my Curve to handle anything more than one folder for tasks and contacts? [more inside]

Is there a minimum sample size required to use the bell curve for performance management?

Is there a minimum sample size required to use the bell curve for performance management? I was wondering if small teams (3-5) can use the normal curve / bell curve for categorizing employees by performance? I have a feeling that the sample size needs to be much larger than that (3-5) for the bell curve to apply. Anybody know if there is a minimum? If possible please share link to supporting evidence.

Another Undecided Consumer

I took a look at the Droid and am very tempted. Have a Blackberry Curve which is fine, but I'm due to upgrade anyway. My contract with AT&T (blech) runs out in October, cancellation fee isn't much. Droid should save me $50/month I'm currently spending to keep my Curve synced with my work Outlook. What think you, hive mind? I know there are a lot of MeFi Droid owners. I trust you way more than Amazon reviewers.
