At Loggerheads with Bank Charge-Off Situation, Any Advice?

We defaulted on a credit card balance repayment plan through our bank. Their collections arm said they would reduce the overall amount owed, but I'm unemployed and it's still too much to repay. Do I have any other options? [more inside]

Tricky situation: temp credit card number, stolen phone, and bureaucracy

Hi, I'm in a pickle because I bought something using my phone's Wallet app. It generates a temporary credit card number every time. I'm having trouble getting my credit card company to reimburse me because the temp number doesn't match my actual credit card, and they don't seem to understand the e-wallet wrinkle. [more inside]

Track pending checks online with Chase?

In the old days, I'd write all transactions in my checkbook. Nowadays, when I use a check to pay for something big (like my son's daycare tuition), I have a written record, but it doesn't get tracked online with all my Chase debit card purchases. Is there any way to add notes about pending checks to my Chase account? [more inside]

Best way to redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards for flight to Europe?

Hi everyone! I'm new to the Chase Ultimate Rewards program and I'm looking to plan a trip to the UK this fall (September 15 to October 6), flying out of Seattle, WA. I've been reading various forums that talk about different ways to transfer and spend points, but I'm not sure if it's better to book using the travel portal directly or through a partner point redemption. All the options are quite confusing. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best, most cost-effective route? Is there an easy tool to compare redemption options? Thanks!

Can I do a direct deposit from one bank account to another?

I have two personal bank accounts. Account #2 gives me rewards if I put in a certain monthly amount by direct deposit. Can I send money from account #1 (Chase checking) to #2 in such a way that it will qualify as a direct deposit? I've tried using Chase's online "transfer money" function to send the amount to #2 as an external account, but #2 did not consider this a direct deposit. Is there another way I can do this? (I've set up my paycheck to go to #2 as direct deposit in future, but that will only start next month and I'd like to get the reward for this month if I can.)

Encouraging Dogs to Play Together? Should I? And how?

I have two dogs:
  • Black Jack, a 13 year old male Schipperke who I adopted in February
  • Licorice, an almost 5-year-old female Pomeranian/Pug/Cocker Spaniel/etc mix, who I've had for almost 2 years
After a few initial skirmishes, they coexist peacefully together for the most part, but almost entirely ignore each other. How can I (can I?) encourage them to play together? [more inside]

Lot of mixed signals from a girl. What is the meaning of it?

I met this girl in my philosophy class and I like her ways but don’t know how she feels about me. So far the mixed signals have been getting as tight as it gets: 50% positive, 50% ignoring me. Is she just being polite (then I will stop approaching her) or is she interested but shy/playing hard to get/busy (then I will chase)? [more inside]

Kids on bikes versus Bad Guys

Kids on bikes escaping / racing a bunch of none-too-friendly adults. Looking for examples of this in movies / tv. Question inspired by Stranger Things and ET. (probably BMX Bandits, too, though I have only hazy memories of it) If someone knows what this falls under on TV Tropes, that works too. Bad Guys could be government, could be criminals.

Should I have chased the shoplifter?

I need to order checks - cheaply but not scammily, please!

I bank with Chase, and they gave me two free boxes of checks when I opened my account in 2008 which have lasted me until now. I called them up and they want to charge me $28/box plus tax and delivery, which seems ridiculous. I don't know anything about how third-party checking orders work, though, and would like to make sure I order through a reputable place. [more inside]

Pursuit hampered by object in center; what's this called?

You know the scene, from many an old comedy or cartoon. A is chasing B. B runs around the edge of an object, such as a large table, so as to put the obstacle between himself and A. Perhaps A and B run around the table a few times. Then A starts to get tricky. A starts to go clockwise around the table, B goes clockwise to get away, A switches direction hoping to run into B coming the other way, but B also reverses, keeping the table between them. Feint back and forth a few times, usually keeping close to the edge of the table. The usual end gag is for A to somehow overcome the barrier of the table and short-cut directly to B; such as leaping over the table, throwing the table aside, or opening the table in half and walking through it (if it's one of those tables where you can add panels to the center). What is this 'circular back and forth chase around an obstacle' called? [more inside]

Block by block

What are some good* movies whose central conflict involves Our Hero(es) trying to get from one end of a city (or a cityish-sized thing) to the other in the space of a day or night? Examples would be The Warriors, 16 Blocks, or - if I'm remembering it right - Judgement Night. [more inside]

Chase.com not loading

I have a PC running Firefox 6 as of yesterday. When I try to go to www.chase.com I get the following message: An error occurred during a connection to www.chase.com. Peer's Certificate has been revoked. (Error code: sec_error_revoked_certificate) Googling is not helping perhaps because I am not familiar enough with certificates and how they work. Any ideas on how to use the site without turning off certificates? Is it important to keep them on?
