Contemporary console & games for completionist-RPG-ers & vehicle-gamers

My wife was a big fan of the Suikoden series, but it appears moribund and she's played out what she has. I find I have an itch for photorealistic vehicle-oriented games. We have a fine PC but we're likely gonna get a post-Wii console. Help us choose the console and games! [more inside]

Co-op game similar to Stardew Valley

Hi all, I know there are some gamers in here so I was hoping y'all could help this non-gamer out with picking a new game. I actually went most of my life not enjoying playing computer games at all but fell in love with Stardew Valley. I loved that at any time, I could choose to do something zen (fishing), productive (farming), or exciting (mining). I also loved that it was co-op but we weren't forced to be together or cooperate all the time. Are there any similar games out there?

Building an individual basketball player development program

Where can I find good practice routines/drills for developing individual basketball fundamental skills? e.g. dribbling, layups, passing, etc. All around game improvement is the goal to help improve enough to make varsity next fall. I'd like to build a practice schedule that can be done daily with metrics to track improvement. Something that can be done at home (in a driveway with hoop on garage) by yourself. Online mentors/coaching? Also, where can I get more information about improving the 'head game' part? Outwitting opponents, strategies, tactics, etc. Books, videos? Thank you

Live chat book club

I am looking for an online book club that has scheduled chatroom (or other versions of live chat) discussions. I want the discussion/chat of an in-person book club, but with the convenience of not leaving the comforts of home. Does such a thing exist, or is this one of those "be the change" things? Free/very low cost venues for small conference in the Los Angeles area?

A online discussion / blogger group I'm involved in is looking to hold a 2 day small conference in the Los Angeles area for about 50ish people this June and they're looking a venue that could be free (or very low cost) . This is not a for-profit group but they don't have official nonprofit status. This might be a tall order but I was asked to look into this and thought the MeFi hive mind might know! Thanks for any suggestions!

Do you have any good strategies for not getting sick on rollercoasters?

I love rollercoasters, and am planning an amusement park road trip with my son that is built around riding a whole bunch of them. But in my middle age I have started to get motion sickness from riding. It's the standard queasiness and bellyache stuff, where I feel like I'm gonna barf and then can't eat afterward. The internet suggests that Sea-Bands or Dramamine or [insert miracle cure] all work great, and simultaneously that none of them work at all. Do you have a strategy/regimen that has helped you keep riding?

Recommend me some puzzle books!

I recently found out about puzzle books and my partner and I completed The Librarian's Almanaq last month and loved it. Can you recommend more of the same please?! I know there is a sequel to that one on Kickstarter: Conjurer's Almanaq. We enjoyed the variety of puzzles it provided and just solving it together over a period of time (maybe like 5 or 6 evenings) and that it was a screen-free activity too. Whatcha got?
