What are some good, hard daily crossword puzzles?

I'm on the hunt for more crossword puzzles that are about as hard as a Saturday NYT or a Monday New Yorker. I already do the LAT and sometimes WSJ. Where are the other good — tough!!!!!! — x-words I can dig my nerdy teeth into? (I already know about the Times archive, and I'm not interested in cryptics.)

Small town fundraising

I'm originally from a small town in Appalachia but follow the local paper and social media frequently. When folks (organizations typically like schools, but sometimes individuals) ask for donations, they invariable only ask for check or even tell them the account number to deposit at the local bank. I rarely see online payment or the usual (Zelle, venmo, paypal). Is this a small town thing, an organization thing, or just my small town thing?

What do I need besides a bicycle pump?

I have a nice bike that has been sitting in a closet for a year. What do I need to do to get it ready to ride other than pump up the tires? I'm not very bikey and don't know what's involved in maintenance, but the weather's gotten reasonable and I'm hoping to take it out a little.

ebikes - conversion kit vs dedicated model

I'm considering getting an ebike (mid-drive with torque sensing) and am debating two possible paths: either converting my existing commuter bike, which I have known and loved dearly, using a kit (TSDZ2), or selling my bike and purchasing a new, dedicated ebike from a reputable brand. [more inside]

How to get more comfortable with failure - but not in the way you think!

I find it impossible to do any activity with the potential of failure as a leisure activity. To me, leisure activities are things like reading and taking long walks - activities where it is impossible to do them wrong. I like doing activities where there is potential for failure, such as cooking and baking, but they feel like work. Help me change this? [more inside]

Decorating my cool base: the game

Game recommendations wanted! I have lately been yearning for a game that focuses on having a house or base that I expand and decorate in great detail. Preferably this is the focus of the gameplay but it’s okay if it’s just a big aspect. I want to play this on my Nintendo Switch, please. Yes! I have already played Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing, Dragonquest Builders 2, Ooblets, and many more. [more inside]

Question from a Constant Reader

In the mid-1990s, I bought a lot of the Signet printings of older Stephen King books, like The Bachman Books, Needful Things, Tommyknockers, The Stand, etc. Most if not all of them had introductions or forewords or afterwords by King, directed to us, his Constant Reader. I loved these and miss them now when I get first "printings" on my kindle from the library of all his new books. Does he still write them? Where can I find them without tracking down old reprints?
