Family Halloween costume ideas needed (two moms and a baby edition)

My wife and I have an adorable 4 month old and want to dress our little family up in a group costume but we’re coming up blank. I’m chubby and femme, my wife is pretty androgynous and would definitely dye her short hair any rainbow colour for the right costume; our baby is a generic cute baby.

As an example of what we like, I love the idea of Coraline and her mother and the other mother but I think we’re going to wait until our baby can walk for that one.

We’re both pretty geeky and bookish, obscure is fine, bonus points for ideas I can sew all or part of myself. I’m trying to avoid us dressing up as a hetero couple so any mom/dad and baby costumes don’t work for us.

I’ve been waiting to do family costumes for years and now we can I’m having so much trouble deciding!

I saw two people dressed as chefs with their baby as a little lobster and the pot was designed around the carrier. I thought it was really clever to integrate the carrier into the costume.

- two scuba divers and a baby octopus
- two vines and the baby is a pumpkin

Two NASA engineers or aliens and a baby astronaut? Or, conversely, two astronauts and a baby alien?

Chefs. Giant stock pot. Baby in lobster costume. I saw this once and was so smitten I nearly spontaneously became pregnant from the sheer cuteness.

Best answer: Two football players and a football.

The Maltese Falcon (Sam Space, Brigid O'Shaughnessy and the baby gets to be the falcon.)

Tintin, Captain Haddock and Snowy.

Asterix, Obelix and Dogmatix

Three Men in a Boat (To Say Nothing of the Dog). Either the baby gets a boater and is one of the three men or the baby gets to be the dog and you keep looking around for George, or for Harris.

Daenerys, Viserys and a dragon egg or very small dragon.

Two anarchists with a bomb. Attach an alarm clock to the baby.

Stalin, Roosevelt and Winston Churchill (baby is Winnie)

Someone gave me a baby lion costume when my son was that age, so we were the lion, the witch (wearing my informal but white wedding dress), and the wardrobe (open box with felt cutouts of coats on my partner).

Best answer: I love all these ideas. My only contribution is: do anything other than superheroes, cartoon characters, princesses, or dinosaurs now, while you have the chance!! Once kiddo gets to choose their own costume, things get real dull for a couple of years.

This coming from the family where we've gone from being The Great British Bake Off (apron-wearing two year old holding a trashcan with Alaska on the side; parents and various teddies as the judges) to ENDLESS variations on Marvel characters... le sigh...

We (mom, dad, baby) were characters from Untitled Goose Game last year. Baby was goose. Pick any other townspeople you'd like; list here- there's the messy neighbor, publican, shopkeeper, and pub customers for more femme characters. Make sure someone has a NO GEESE ALLOWED sign. The multiplayer version of the game is launching shortly, so it might be back on folks radars.

Response by poster: So many great ideas! We might end up going with Great British Bake Off hosts and a cupcake mostly as an excuse for my wife to buy a Noel-inspired shirt.
