Seek a political archivist

A dear friend died late last year, and he left behind a huge collection of political memorabilia, spanning the years from Eisenhower to Obama. It includes buttons, pamphlets, press releases, badges, ephemera—what we'd call "campaign swag" today, of all sorts. What sort of person can help us make sense of it all? [more inside]

Weirdly Specific Packing and Possession Lists?

What packing list was sent to MTV's Road Rule cast? What personal possessions did Scandinavian pioneers in the 1800s own on the farm? What does a typical billionaire have in their house? (Think Peter Menzel's "Material World", but even more.) [more inside]

Dandruff leaves stains on my glasses.

I get dandruff. This is fine and I'm managing it and it's not a big issue, except in one aspect of my life: Tiny dandruff flakes get on my glasses gradually over the course of a day. They're a bit greasy and leave residue, so even if I blow them off they leave stains. Because of this, I have to clean my glasses at least once a day, and often twice, a process that is tricky to do without leaving smears. Help! [more inside]

Seeking Silly Phrase Pairs for Sign-in Sheet Freight Field

I have to fill out another company's sign-in form for my work trips to gain building access, and have realized an opportunity to insert a dad joke or corny turn of phrase on a certain field of this form because basically no one reads it or cares except for the other people who might casually glance at what others have written; I'm seeking silly phrases to write there. Solving Puzzles for Dummies

As a family activity while with the grandparents, we took a family photo, made it into a puzzle, constructed the puzzle, and want to glue it and frame it! Unfortunately, we solved the puzzle right on the dining room table, and we don't want to glue the puzzle to the table. How do we transfer the puzzle onto something else, so we can glue it? where to donate 19th century newspapers?

Posting for a friend: I have bound copies of The New York World from 1871 to 1877. I wish to clear this out and I offered them to the rare book library at The University of Toronto (The Fisher Library) and to the rare book section of the Toronto Public Library. Neither of them wanted them saying that they are now available online or on microfiche. [more inside]

How to remove stains from Chinese tea set

I received a Chinese tea set from Singapore. It was well thought of, though had been in storage for many years. The rest of the tea set is in good condition, however the container that is meant for the storage of the tea leaves has these unusual white marks on the outside. Any idea how these marks came about, or how they could be cleaned? [more inside]

Vocal Coach/Singing Lessons in Toronto: Highly Specific Needs Edition

For various reasons (transition hormones, years of heavy weed and cigarette smoking, sheer lack of practice) I can no longer sing like I used to. This is really bothering me in general and **really** bothering me as I prepare to apply to rabbinical school; once upon a time I had a nice sort of voice for a rabbi to have and right now I have an uncontrolled mess of raw material that I don't know what to do with. Here's what I need from a teacher: [more inside]

Expressing anger in a healthy way

How do you express anger in a healthy way? I don’t always have time to write in my journal, and assertiveness isn’t always appropriate eg if I’m angry at myself, so what else can I do? Please don’t suggest therapy - that is not an option I’m willing to consider- thanks.

Freeze half of every pet?

Back around, say, 2009-2011, there was a post by someone who was sort of an ex-productivity blogger that was a send-up of the various 'zen habits' pieces going around. I remember things like "Freeze half of every pet" and "#19: Do #7 twice"; beyond that, I think the website was mostly shades of gray, with black text. This would have been someone who got linked to from Lifehacker, and probably from the Blue as well - either the pre-Hacker News design/programming crowd, or someone adjacent to GTD. Anyone remember/able to find the blog post 10 years later?

Futuristic sci-fi for youths

The flip side to this question... what are kids' visions of the future? I'm thinking specifically about what contemporary sci-fi is predicting for kids, but I would be interested to know what actual kids think the future and their adulthood will be like.
