I want to make a Hyperface-based Halloween costume. My plan is basically just to put a cardboard box on my head, cut some sort of eye slit, and glue the printed pattern on all sides of the box aside from a neck hole. Bonus if someone has very simple plans for a box that will stay on. [more inside]
I live in New York and am almost 40, so it's increasingly important for me to have extremely comfortable, walkable footwear. But I also, like, emotionally need for my boots to be kinda tough-looking. I work in a creative field, but in an office, so I don't want them to be TOO casual (I do have a great pair with spikes all over but they won't do for work), but plain black Chelsea boots would make me die a little inside. Help me be extremely comfortable while still SLIGHTLY cool? Soooooo many snowflakes inside, I think about boots a lot. [more inside]
I'd like a large, plain, androgynous leather purse. Can you suggest one? [more inside]
I cry pretty easily in emotional upset. If I cry in the evening, I often look pretty awful the next day. My eyes aren't red but I look very tired and sometimes the areas under and above my eyes are really puffy. It's getting worse here in my 40s (like, a co-worker will ask me if I'm okay a few hours into the work day when I cried the night before). Can you help me? [more inside]
I bought a pair of Mephisto Match sneaker-style shoes for a trip to Europe 20 years ago and was amazed at the quality. Style was a bit odd and not the most fashionable, but the performance was incomparable. I'd like to get something updated but Mephisto's #1 shoe is… still the same Match. Help me update? I'm looking for a men's body wash that's heavy on natural ingredients with a traditional masculine scent (vetiver, cedar, pine, tobacco, leather, etc.) Liquid form only - no bar soap, please. If it matters, I live in a humid, semitropical climate. No real skin issues but I tend to prefer washes that go heavy on oils and moisturizing properties.
I love the idea of having an office uniform, and it works for me about 2.5 weeks out of the month - skinny jeans, flats, somewhat tailored button-up shirt. However for the other ~2 weeks of the month, during menstruation and the come-down from menstruation, I have completely different preferences for textures, temperatures and fitted-ness of clothing. Can you help me figure out work uniform substitutes for when my body is feeling super-sensitive? [more inside]
We're invited to a wedding with "Brooklyn formal" attire and despite searching, I still can't quite figure out what would be appropriate to wear that wouldn't require buying an entirely new outfit. [more inside]
I am sick of losing half of a pair of cute socks. I'd like to replace all my extant socks with identical socks so that any two will be a pair. However, if I'm going to make a significant sock outlay all at once, I want them to be THE BEST SOCKS KNOWN TO MAN. The Ubersock. Details on what that means for me indoors. (Difficulty level: fat legs.) [more inside]

Even if they weren’t so ugly, I still wouldn’t wear them because they have 1.5 inch heels, and I hate being almost 6’9” as it is. As for size 16 feet—they look like canoes Still, she was excited to give them to me, and they were a lovely gesture, and if it came down to wearing them or hurting her feelings, of course I’d wear them. I know many of you have been in the same situation—where lying and being a sneaky little shit weasel is the kindest thing to do. Let’s make this happen. What’s the first step?
My 10yo (cis-gender) daughter is on the higher end of the weight range (100lbs, 54inches tall). Ms Catalyzer and I are having a hard time finding where to buy clothes that fit her - hopefully with minimal alterations. What are your recommendations?
I have a hopefully straightforward skincare question but I am getting confused by the information overload available on the web. Very simply: how long does it take for skin to adjust to a new (but still, very basic) skincare routine? I have added a couple extra steps to my routine and now my skin looks good but feels dry and tight. Should I give it a week or two, or is this a clear indication that it isn't working? [more inside]
I would like to expand my repertoire of hairstyles. Snowflakes below. [more inside]

I'd like something that I can step into after a bath/shower without having to towel off. The most obvious choice is a bathrobe, but I would prefer something tighter fitting. Does this exist? If so, where can I buy it?
I need a new pair of jeans, and would really like a satisficing cut/color: something that presents as sleek but unassuming (for a grownup professional), can be worn for smart casual workdays if needed, is not going to make me look like a fashion victim in 2 years. Is this still skinny jeans? If not, what is it? [more inside]
