I read two books in the early '80s that I bought at a used book store; I thought the first one was called "The In Six." That's not correct - all my googling has turned up nothing. Essentially, six college students/grad students swap partners and practice various sexual techniques with each other, while pursuing their education.

How do you (as in, what is your process to) buy nice things for yourself? Have you overcome an overly frugal mindset? How did you make the shift? Do you treat yoself when it's financially OK to do so? How do you choose to treat yourself without going overboard? Tell me your luxury-buying ways.

I recently purchased a Lenovo ideapad 330. Ever since setup, McAfee popups have been trying to browbeat me into subscribing, but my understanding was that Lenovo 330s came with Windows Defender, but I'm not finding that when I search my computer? Suggestions?

The plates--or bricks, or whatever they are--inside these carts slide out and are made of metal; they're very heavy. These recently appeared in the hallway in the basement of a government office building. Can you tell me what they are?

Hey, it's the long-awaited (by me, anyway) follow-up to my 2012 question on where to buy the stuff. I finally did! Now, I want to crowdsource ideas for what to cook with it. What are your favorite recipes that use doubanjiang + ingredients I can find at a regular US grocery store?

I have an audition tonight. A friend informed me that for the part I'm going for, I need to be able to channel/imitate the dad character. How do I do that as a relatively high pitched female?

I am mid-late stage in a very technical job hunt, and I've been told that reference letters would speed things along, and are a thing I should ask for, but have not been given a timeline. Can I get some help writing the requests?

I've known someone for 8 months through work 6 mo that ago he asked me for a date and hit it off. We have been official since. I'm 35 single mother of one. I've been cautious and have done all the right things in my dating life. Single for three years but have dated a few times. When I met him, things felt easy, never forced or wondered where things were going. Really put in genuine effort to get yo know me my daughter and family. I've never inteodiced her to anyone to her or my family. After a great weekend away with family he decides to tell me he has a 12 mos old. Im hurt and very sad by this bc he has had many opportunities to tell me, especially given fact I'm a single parent. I feel like the carpet was pulled from me. Someone I actually thought I saw a future with and I fee betrayed because it just felt right. He's appologetic of course maintains that he felt scared that I would run if o had known. I feel heartbroken and sad bc I always have him stable ground to be honest with everything in his past. I've already asked him to leave. My daughter and family grew close to him, and so did I. I felt a love I thought was real and now overnight it's gone. Before I completely close this chapter, is there any hope to this? Is this forgiveable?

Twice in the past month my cell number was added to a groupme thread. They have the wrong number and I have exited the group both times. This is likely the same people again (once for dancing, now for cheerleading). How can I stop them from adding my number to the next group? I replied to say wrong number before exiting this time.

We call our cat, Pumpkin, the two-minute cat. After two minutes of anything (besides sleeping), she walks around the house yowling, chirping, moaning, singing the song of her people, and generally sounding like she is on the brink of a very painful death. She is not, of course.

YANMD. For over two weeks now, I've been totally knocked down with some kind of crud. My doctors have done a ton of tests and I've done a course of antibiotics, so my doctor thinks this is viral. That theory makes sense to me, but I'm wondering how common it is for a virus to last this long? If you've experienced it, can you tell me more?

My Mom passed away last autumn, and she made provisions to enable her boyfriend to stay there over the winter, because it's harder to move in the winter and harder to sell a house anyway. So the deal was that he would stay there until the house sold, and he would take care of everything like shoveling snow and mowing the yard. He would pay the bills out of a fund mom had put aside for the purpose.

Years ago, I remember reading a quote about performance expectations. It was something about how we think we judge our standards by the best work we receive, but our actual standard is the lowest quality work that we accept. I think the line was in a book about teaching (and so the context was about teachers setting the standard as the worst student work that they would pass or would not require to be resubmitted). I have no clue how to track down this quote!

It looks like (at least some) butter in New Zealand (like this) is referred to as "Mantequilla". This looks suspiciously like a Spanish word to me, but my quick Googling isn't turning up a reason why the New Zealanders would refer to it this way. Does anyone know where this comes from?

Looking for the title of this book from a comment in the recent forgery FPP:
BlahLaLa: One of my favorite novels concerns a family of forgers who, for generations, have been playing the long game: each forger makes forgeries of contemporary art of the era, using all the usual contemporary supplies—the paints, the canvas, the wood for the frame, etc.—then puts away the art to be stored for decades or even centuries, so later family members can "find" them and sell them as originals. And everything checks out because it's all authentic, except the actual artist.

So I live alone and therefore sleep by myself . I get cold easily due to the minus temperatures we get in this part of Australia. I tried adding a sleeping bag to my regular duvet but it kept falling off, so I bought two wool blankets, but they also fall off. I can’t afford to keep the heater on all night but am using it for a few hours in the evening, as well as wearing pyjamas. What else can I do to stay warm enough overnight?

I'm looking for a trans or trans-friendly tailor in Boston for dress shirt alterations. Queer Exchange has, sadly, led me to dead ends, and I'm not comfortable taking this to a cis rando whose comfort with trans genders and bodies hasn't been tested. (A known trans-friendly cis person is fine.) Who do you recommend, or where else should I look for recommendations?

I saw these microfiber laundry balls in a store recently and was intrigued. My question: Is this bullshit? Would it actually help the environment if I bought and used one, or would it just make me feel good? Non-PR sources preferred.

I'm doing a website called "Luxury by Design," but it seems to me the 'b' in "By" should get capped when referring to the site by name. "By" is a preposition, yes, but when used in the sense of "according to" or "by agency of" ... doesn't it look better treated as a main word?

My partner and I are having a secular wedding ceremony in October. We're both atheist/agnostic white cis guys who play multiple musical instruments. Weirdos that we are, we're considering using a gong in the wedding ceremony, but I'm concerned about that it might be viewed as racist cultural appropriation.

I want a really big, strong bike that does not cost several thousand dollars. I don't care about weight. I weigh 200 pounds and usually have a 30 pound backpack on. I am over six feet tall, with long legs. I bike every day, in rain and in snow, on poorly maintained roads and over curbs. I want a bike that is not constantly snapping spokes and that does not cost thousands of dollars.

So, I've recently moved into a new place, but I'm only here for a few months, so I can't go making big changes to the way things work. Thereis no schedule for housework in place, people mostly keep to their rooms when alone, but the kitchen and bathroom in particular need some remedial work. I'm happy to just do what I feel needs doing, but am concerned about getting my housemates offside if they take my cleaning up after them as unspoken critique.
