Help me find an article that appeared in Rolling Stone magazine a few years ago (maybe 2004?) about a special and very exclusive "game." I test drove a Nissan Versa and I liked the car very much, but felt that maybe my lower back hurt after 45 minutes or so of driving--even though the seat felt good when I first climbed into it. Otherwise, great value. And when I talk to other people who own this car, they tell me how comfortable the seats are. I'm 5'11", 160 pounds--pretty average I would suppose. So my question: 1) How likely is it that my back will "adjust" to the car? 2) If the seat doesn't work after awhile, has anyone had success with lumbar support products (pillows, etc.)--or is that just wishful thinking? The vet said, 3 months ago, that she thought she located the second one, very small, high up in his abdomen and she suggested waiting until he was 8 months old before considering surgery to go up and retrieve it as its possible it will turn cancerous if left up there. Now the 8 month deadline is up and the recalcitrant testicle still hasn't shown up! [more inside]

Name my radio show, which focuses on electronic music, centered around genres like: idm/braindance or whatever we call it these days, dub, trip-hop, chip music (as in... gameboy's and C64's), aleatoric, grime, dubstep, minimal, electrofunk, deep house and so forth. I would say the primary theme of the show is music that is interesting not only for doing something creative, but for doing it with newly available technology (for it's time). I also have a bias towards music that is rooted in Jazz or other improvisational traditions. Aside from what is decidely artsy-music, there is also a smattering dancable music and mashups deemed clever enough. There is no dance music of the foor-to-the-floor variety though, and it is not primarily a dance show. [more inside]

Recommend me a film with a theme centering around a social justice issue. Preferably fictitious, or at least not a documentary (sorry Michael Moore fans). I realize that "social justice" is a loosely-defined term; basically, if the screenwriter is trying to make a point about a social justice issue, it's fair game. An archetypal example would be The Constant Gardener, but also acceptable would be movies along the lines of American History X, Crash, Children of Men or Gattaca. Thanks, green!

Seat maps of the theater, not showing all dimensions of the space, do not really give one a good idea of which would be the best place to sit. Last night in a pub here in northern Thailand I had the pleasure of meeting a gentleman from the county of Ross and Cromarty in Scotland. He wore a ring on the face of which was the number 2 1/2 and on the sides of which were displayed a thistle. When I enquired as to their meaning he declined to tell me and said, moreover, that I would not be able to find out. The usual Google searches have not been helpful. Could a good Scotsman among the Metafilter hive enlighten me?

Hi MeFi, does anyone know a brand/model of microwave oven that doesn't beep if you leave the food in it after the cooking is finished? Manufacturers' web sites never mention little, but important, things like this. It's for an office, and I don't want people driven insane if someone forgets to take their food out. I've been trying really hard to find this commercial for a long time with no luck. It is from the late nineties I think and it is most likely a cereal commercial. Description: A guy is eating cereal but his long hair keeps falling in the bowl, so he goes to the bathroom and bends over as if he's eating cereal. He cuts his hair so that it won't fall in bowl anymore. Then he goes back and eats cereal without hair in the way. The song playing in the background has lyrics that go: "The time has come for us to say 'sayonara.'" Anyone remember this? Have links to commercial or song? Any info would help.

A little over a year ago, DuckFOO asked essentially the exact same question I'd like to ask now - I'm a Mac geek and will be setting up a Windows Vista Basic computer for my computer novice mother, and am freaked about security. I'm doing the re-ask because many of the articles and ideas that came in responses to the original question are MIA or too old to necessarily apply to Vista, and because the original poster took some things for granted, like turning off unnecessary services, that I'm nowhere as familiar with. Obviously, many a result comes up with any search for Vista security - I need a reliable, Ask Mefi-approved, novice level guide.

Earworm: Please identify the song title and artist responsible for a soaring, saxophone driven instrumental hit popular on FM radio sometime in the 1978-1981 time frame. As I understand it, though I can't find a reference for this, media outlets alternate the colours they use for political parties. Sometimes the Republicans are red and sometimes the Democrats are. But this didn't happen in the last election, apparently because the two parties (especially the Republicans) invested themselves deeply into their chosen colour. For 2008 in the U.S. is there any indication that the media will go back to the old way, or further entrench the permanent colours? (FWIW, in Canada the colours have been pretty standardized for a long time it appears.)

I am looking for examples of secret / esoteric information and facts that changed your perspective on the world or caused you to say 'Now that's interesting, I haven't heard that before!'. For example, this recent thread contained information about ADM that opened my eyes to the subtleties of the sugar markets. A simpler example of the type of knowledge I am looking for are the interesting things that grocery stores do to increase sales. Or the unsubstantiated claim that more people speak English in China that they do in America. I am looking for interesting tid-bits of knowledge that you might find in books like The Tipping Point and Freakanomics. Something your Oxford educated, weed-smoking Uncle might whip out during a random conversation at a cocktail party.

I'm trying to remember the name of a really great home electronics company who I believe was catalog only, that I last knew about in the late 80s, when I ordered some dbx brand bookshelf speakers, and denon cd and amp (which I still own and are running strong to this day!) The catalogs came to my parents house in Santa Barbara, and they had all this really well selected gear, with both narrative and technical descriptions. The narrative felt like an enthusiast, but not snobby high end enthusiast. The company's name was, I believe, two syllables, something like Redken, but I know that's not it. Any idea what company I'm talking about, and if they still exist?
When I was in Washington DC approximately 8 years ago, I remember being captivated by a street performer playing drums. If anyone can provide a picture, a video, or even just a description of all the implements used in the kit I would be most grateful (also, whether or not this man is still performing or any other relevant information). So a common subplot in a lot of movies is that the protagonist has a dull life and suddenly a romantic partner sweeps in and changes EVERYTHING. It spans genres from The Mask to Stranger Than Fiction (and of course the romantic comedy / chick flick industry would go broke without it.) I guess Cinderalla is the archetypal story here. I'm sort of curious about what larger connections there are to this thematic convention—like has anyone written about it, maybe focused more on Cinderalla and gender studies or psychology etc. [more inside]

Fun stuff to do in Vegas with kids? We'll be there for 2 days, staying at Circus Circus, with 7-year old boy/girl twins. Haven't been there in 10 years. Besides walking the strip at night and doing the stuff at the hotel, what else do y'all recommend? Also, what's the rule on kids and casinos? If we take that walkway that goes into Caesar's, I seem to recall it drops you off right in the casino. Are we not allowed to even use this with children, or is it OK as long as we get them out of the casino area quickly?
