Among the one's I've seen and liked on Netflix: Samurai Champloo, Macross (all of them), Blue Drop, Spice and Wolf, and Gurren Lagann, and Initial D. There are others, but are there any hidden anime gems on Netflix that I'm missing?

Imagine that the earth is hit by another Mars-ish sized object causing a second moon to be formed. If the second moon were orbiting the Earth inside or outside of the orbit of The Moon, and assuming it was not orbiting the Earth parallel to The Moon, the two moons would have to cross each other at some point, right? A sort of moon-over-moon eclipse thing. How would you calculate how often this would occur? What would it look like? Does this happen on planets with more than one natural satellite? Does the premise of this question make no sense because my knowledge of astrophysics is basically nil? Explain to me like I am in fifth grade, please. [more inside]
We're attending some friends' commitment ceremony scheduled for 5pm on a summer Saturday. What to wear for these occasions is totally baffling to me, so I'm turning to the hivemind for etiquette advice. I'd love to be able to wear the dress from my own wedding 15 years ago (attended by one half of this couple), in part because it's a pretty dress and also as an homage to these lovely people that happen to reside in a state without marriage equality. The dress is not a typical wedding dress (it's a peach and pink floral, in silk chiffon) and style-wise is the sort of thing I think would be appropriate for the event and the venue. But would it be weird to wear it to another wedding? And should I have it shortened from floor-length to, say, tea-length?

I have a good credit score according to creditkarma.com, have just a handful of credit cards that I pay off monthly, and am otherwise an upstanding citizen (j/k). According to their credit simulator, if I get a new credit card with a credit limit of at least $5-10k, that'll increase my score enough to boost me into the next level. I'm looking to refinance my mortgage, so I'm wondering if this will actually work. None of my research has given this as a fast/easy way to raise credit scores (for someone who already has a few credit cards, that is), so that's why I'm asking. (FWIW, I'm very frugal and disciplined, and I'm not at all concerned that I'm going to go on a wild shopping spree. The only reason to get the card would be to increase my score.) [more inside]

I don't go to movies all that often. It's not that I don't like them, it's just that I get really caught up in them emotionally. I've always been quite sensitive and I find emotions to have an uncomfortable physical quality to them. So, when I go to the movies, a lot of my effort goes into clamping down on what I feel. What separates the "never-recover-from-this-breakup/shell of my former self" people from the ones who bounce back and love again?
Why is it that some people never seem to recover after a bad break-up or divorce? You know those people...the sort of "empty shell" folks who walk around perpetually sad or simply damaged in some way that keeps them frozen in place. I ask this question on behalf of myself--as I not-so-recently went through a break-up with a man I considered to be THE ONE--but also because I knew someone who had yet to recover from their divorce after eight years. I bought a pair of men's leather dress shoes with an elongated, narrow toe box last week, and now they're killing me. Something about the funky shape is causing the leather to "bite" down right beneath my big toes on both feet, leading to painful sores. Any suggestions for how to fix this, or am I stuck just getting rid of them?

Help me with games/activities for my mom's 75th birthday party. My sisters and I are planning a birthday party for my mom. There will 60 people there, ages 5 - 80. She doesnt want people just standing around bored and would like some games. We are already spending more than we budgeted on food and drink. Please suggest some no cost or extremely low cost entertainment ideas. Two of us will be flying into town a couple days before the party and the other sister who lives in town is also planning a high school graduation party for her son and just added a year old foster child to her brood of six kids so most planning will need to be done remotely. We're having a Fiesta theme so bonus points for taking that into account.

The friend asks a favor along the lines of, "If anything happens to me, please bring this item to the American Embassy," or something like that. He hands something to our hero, and, of course, the friend is murdered before the meal is finished. Our hero is on the run. So, Mefites, any ideas?

I came across a very neat online language learning tool a few weeks ago, but I didn't bookmark it and now I can't find it again. Basically it worked like this: you choose a preset text or story (I think they were mostly fables and fairy tales), your native language, and the foreign language you're trying to practice. Then it shows the text of the story with a few of your native words replaced with their foreign equivalents, letting you learn them in context. [more inside]

And 2), Oregon folks, can you recommend a place that will be okay with late night music/dancing and about 15 teenagers?

I am looking for the best DVD (not Blu-Ray) prints of Silence of the Lambs and Manhunter. I know Lambs had a Criterion issue and regular issue, a 2-disc issue and perhaps more. Manhunter had a 2-disc issue (orange cover), a single issue, and perhaps others. I currently have the Hannibal Lector trilogy, which is all three movies in slimline cases with no extras. I am not sure if they are the same prints that come in single issue cases or if my prints are the high quality. When I say "best", I am referring to best picture quality first and then extras. I am not sure if newer issues lime my slimline set necessarily have the best picture or not simply because they are newer. My slimline set is just the bare bones movies, btw. So best print and if any extras that would be great. I know Criterion has commentary on Silence.

People who we might now call children of the Enlightenment--Chomsky, Hitchens, Dawkins, deGrasse Tyson, Pinker, and so on--have a way of relating to ethical questions that is very similar to the teachings of the Buddha. Talk to me about building a perennial garden from the ground up. I'm a fairly new gardener, and have recently bought a number of plants online. This worked well, because we have a small but complicated garden layout (in terms of sun/shade/water) and I can figure out specifics without getting overwhelmed. My community college requires a basic, high school level Physics course as a prerequisite to any other course in the subject. While I took such classes in high school, I have no proof of this on my transcript. My only option at this point is to appeal to the head of the department of Science and Mathematics. While I do plan on making as compelling of a case as possible, I've been told that they want to see some kind of proof that a student would succeed in such a class before granting the petition. Does anyone have any idea what kind of things they might be looking for? What might I be able to do to prove that I know the material and would be able to handle the coursework?

I recently bought another 1TB HDD, so I now have two 1TB HDDs (Both western digital; caviar black) and an Intel SSD (operating system). The new HDD, after one day of use has gone bad. S.M.A.R.T has detected errors, I ran the western digital tool and that also detected errors. I was warned to backup my drive, so I tried to last night but after 2 hours I gave up to re-do it tomorrow (tons of files). I stopped the backup properly and shutdown. Now this morning I'm trying to get all 830gigs of my files off of the new bad drive, back onto my original storage hdd before the new drive goes completely bad and I lose all of my important files. The windows restore and backup program is giving me error code: 0x8007045D near the start of the backup. I/O device error. I've checked the destination HDD and it returned no errors (both with the western didgital tool and using chkdsk). I need to fix this problem quick before my new drive totally fails.

We want to watch movies on Netflix Istant that have beautiful cinematography. Nothing too violent or gory. We'd prefer a good plot and characters. We're not talking a good looking film, we want beautiful, drop dead gorgeous photography, available on Netflix Instant. For an example of what I mean by drop dead gorgeous, check out the trailer for Nostalghia. Obviously other films by that director, Andrei Tarkovsky, are one list, but what else would you suggest?

So I've got the classic dilemma- to eat or not to eat. I have some chorizo (the mexican variety, olé brand, if it matters), that I opened maybe two, three months ago. The chorizo is stored in individually wrapped sausage shaped holders. The sell by date on the package is June 16, as in next month. When I broke open one of the wrappers, the chorizo still smells divine inside. Is it ok to eat it since the main package was opened? Does the air outside of the little wrappers cause what's inside them to go bad? The internet was full of generalizations ("it's ground meat, of course it will go bad"), but I'd like a more definite answer. Anybody know?

We just signed a year long lease on a very nice house but haven't moved in yet. Parenting filter: I have two kids, 11 and 9. I'm a divorced dad trying to figure out a plan for their accountability for their chores when they're with me. The biggest stumbling block seems to be division of labor. On the one hand, assigning individual chores (Daughter, you wash the dishes. Son, you dry and put away) and rewarding for completion seems simple enough. But I want to teach them teamwork, negotiation, time management (who does what part first) and shared responsibility. So sometimes I say "Clean the kitchen, you figure out who does what". The latter seems better for a shared reward like a trip to the movies. Does anyone favor one approach over the other, and why? BTW they're coming from a household where their mom and I differed on how to handle chores, so they're a little used to coasting.

Should I buy a cajón? I know the best thing would be to go to my local big box drum store (ba-dum-dum) and try them out, but in the meantime...Can I get something in the hundred dollar range that sounds good, isn't too fragile, and is portable-ish? Are there particular brands/models that are considered particularly good value, can't-go-wrong choices? Also, I'm 5'2" -- Should I be worried about getting something too big? I'm interested in getting a cajon because it seems versatile and reasonably easy to get nice sounds out of it even while learning. Is that a safe assumption, or is there a better choice in the portable-hand-drum, sitting-around-playing-music-with-friends department (e.g., bongos, djembe...)? Posting for my girlfriend: I am looking for restaurant recommendations for a date somewhere in or around Lake Villa, IL (roughly 10 miles west of Gurnee.) I am willing to drive up to 30 minutes. I am looking for good food, strongly prefer an independent restaurant to a chain and absolutely no sports bars. Unique/hole in the wall is okay, as long as the food is good and we can talk. Both people on this date are female, but I'm not holding my breath for lesbian bars/restaurants in that area.
I am getting a tattoo of two birds on my back to cover up some old tattoos that I no longer like. I am looking for bird species inspiration. Ideally these will be some sort of plumed birds, but please link me/give me a species name of any birds that you find to be particularly beautiful. Thanks!

Hi , I was wondering if any mefiers could help advise me on potentially choosing a certain module for my llb (undergraduate law) option. It strikes me as an option very similar that provided in American law schools. How are these usually assessed? The naive bone in me is entertaining the prospect of a slightly less harsh marking criteria compared to the substantive core modules I shall be studying as well; but I could be wrong.
