YoutubeFilter: help me find a video online. I want to find a clip-from any movie out there-of the standard, cliche "new guy in New York seeing the sites with a huge grin" montage. The sort of thing that is in films from the 80s like Crocodile Dundee, where you see a tourist/hillbilly seeing the city for the first time, set to some poppy, uptempo soundtrack music. HELP!
I often find myself wanting to search sites like netflix and amazon with greater granularity than the sites currently offer. For example, I'd like to find every highly-rated thriller that takes place in another country and is available used for $5.00. Or if I'm searching netflix, I would want to find every foreign mystery that is rated at four stars or higher and is rated pg-13 or lower. The other day, I had a cup of oatmeal from Jamba Juice. The oatmeal was just fine, but what really made it for me was the "brown sugar crumble" that was added. In my quest to create my own, I'm finding a lot of "brown sugar crumble" toppings online, but the recipes I'm finding are for cruble that is spread on top of a dessert and baked at the same time as muffins etc. I'd like to create a pre-made cup of crumble that I can store for a while and just take spoonfuls as needed. Before baking a sheet of crumble without any baked goods, I thought I'd ask if anybody here has a proven method. Can anybody help me out? thanks.

My father-in-law replaced his old Mac Mini with a newer Mac, so he asked me if I wanted the Mini. I've been a Windows guy for almost two decades (with a soft spot for Linux) but have never owned or used a Mac. Being that it's an older Mini, based on the Motorola chip and not Intel, it's not going to be the fastest thing ever, I'm sure, but I figure as something that doesn't cost me anything it's as good a way to learn about Mac as any. Seeing as I am a complete Mac virgin, I was wondering if those of you who know your way around Macs would give me a piece of advice. [more inside]

Oh, also I think they didn't have a tv. What is the title?

Should I pull the money out of my daughter's 529? She is 19. She is taking time off and is eventually planning to do a certificate program at the community college. Meanwhile we had saved up enough for an expensive four year college. Right now there is a loss on the account. Since it is an age related investment, it is invested pretty conservatively. My understanding is that if I withdraw it now since there is a loss there will be no tax or penalty and I can reinvest in something more aggressive and more flexible, spendingwise. Does this make sense to give up the tax advantage to avoid the possibility of penalties later?

Ill be visiting Canada (Vancouver, BC) for the month of February for the Olympics. I have a US based iPhone with service with AT&T on a Family plan with one other iPhone. AT&Ts web site is pretty opaque on the subject of roaming in Canada, but it appears that I can switch to a nationwide family talk plan that includes Canada for the month. Ive been able to find no information on what making that switch will mean for data usage for my iPhone. AT&Ts "customer service web-surfing monkey (tm)" on the phone was no help at all, seemingly having trouble understanding the difference between Mexico and Canada. So whats the deal? Can I get data for a reasonable price with my iPhone in Canada, or should I just go cold turkey and shut my iPhone off for the month (shudder)?

She's asked me to help her figure out where she might turn for additional diagnosis and care (ie, ways to locate/contact best-in-class specialists/etc, not non-traditional medicine). I'm pretty healthy and have never had this kind of interaction with doctors, so I'm at a bit of a loss. [more inside]

Why do flatbed scanners seem to have so little dynamic range for sketches? I draw for fun, usually with a 0.5mm mechanical pencil. I do not put a lot of pressure onto the pen because it allows for more details/subtle shading. When I scan the images, the "light" details are always blown out and no amount of fiddling xsane's settings (gamma, brightness, contrast) seems to reveal them. Is there a trick I'm missing, or paper+scanner just really sucks and I should just use my tablet? Example scanned drawing lacking much of the visual information that the eye can see on paper. Scanners I have used over the years: HP ScanJet 3300C, Canon lide (briefly), and now a Brother MFC-5840CN.

Bass lines, explosions, laser guns, piano runs, orchestral movements, movie quotes, kick drums, laughing babies, bring it!. My girlfriend and I have been dating for almost six months now, but I know we have a special connection. I know she is very emotionally involved in our relationship as am I. We are planning on moving in together during the summer (mostly to save money). We are both 23 and live in Boston. She is Chinese, concerned with the environment, and about to go to grad school. I have been working on my start-up company. Neither of us have much money. That does not mean I can't do something special for her. The day before Valentine's is our 6-month anniversary which my girlfriend is planning and has already got some tickets to the opera for us to see. I lent my Compaq laptop (running vista) out to a friend and now it's totally owned by virii, and I don't have the time, patience, wherewithal to fix this level of problem. Is there a good, independent (not Best Buy) place in town to get this looked at and potentially fixed for a reasonable price? Again, I'm not interested in fixing it myself, I'd rather pay someone else to be frustrated for me.

Last year I almost bought a new Volvo c30. I drove one and liked it, but then work got busy and I put the whole thing off until the spring. However, in December Ford announced that they would be selling Volvo to Geely. Geely has apparently has only been manufacturing cars since 1989. This makes me hesitant, even though the BBC report on the sale states: Industry observers say the sale is good news for Volvo. Am I over thinking this, or is the ownership of a car company irrelevant?

Idiosyncratic movies filter. I've realized that I tend to like movies in a certain niche that you might call "uncategorizable," and I'm looking for your recommendations for more of these movies to see. It's hard to say they're all in the same genre (since some of them are quite different from the others), but it's also hard to say which genres they do belong to. I plan to return to playing World of Warcraft. However, I need to keep the game on an external hard disk, or at least temporarily transfer it from the computer's drive to that disk frequently. When I played before, the files (install files or the installed game) would not copy to the external drive, although I have never had any such problems with a non-WoW file. I am thinking of getting an install CD for the game, so that instead of transferring from the computer to the external drive, I can just erase and reinstall. Problem is, I would need to reinstall all patches each time I did that. Does anyone have any ideas about why the external disk doesn't like WoW or how I can get around this?

Hi everyone. Say I have a list of 50 items. I pick 10 of them. I put them back. What is the probability that, the SECOND time I pick 10 items, I pick an item I already picked the first time? How about the THIRD time, from the first or second? How about the probability of picking 3 of the same item, or 5? Thanks!
Is it simply possible that, because I have a 4-year-old Powerbook - OS 10.4.11, one month old new hard drive, memory and RAM maxed out, only used 1/4 of memory, system checked regularly with Onyx (with no problem) - I keep getting "program not responding to, especially, my Opera and Firefox browsers, as well as programs like Word, iPhoto, and iTunes? Plus, more than half the time my Powerbook won't close down when I ask it to and have to do a hard turn off, which can't be good for it. I've asked a couple of Mac forums, a Mac Genius, and my so-far trustworthy Mac guy whether having a PowerPC processor, instead of the newer Intel one, should make any difference. I got a resounding no. Still, does anyone have a contrarian and, perhaps, right, explanation? Thanks.

Don’t Know Much About Worker’s Comp. -- Last week I went to my doctor to talk about the symptoms of my work-related stress, he diagnosed me as depressed and gave me a prescription and a note to my employer requiring a two-week leave of absence. Because this is work-related, his office said the visit will be covered by worker’s compensation. That’s fine with me, although I have health insurance to cover the visit. I’m on leave from work now, resting, considering my options, and waiting for the meds to kick in. I’m paying for this leave with my sick time and vacation time. They will be tapped out when it’s over. I don’t anticipate a need of more time off, though I suppose this shouldn’t be ruled out. [more inside]

I have a 2008 Mercury Mariner. Recently, all of the dashboard lights light up like a christmas tree (and stay lit) and the gauges all sweep to the end and then stop back at zero while I am driving. Once I shut the engine off, the car will not start. This does not happen all the time but enough that it left me stranded twice in the past week. I have replaced the battery. This did not help. Through trial and error, I learned if I hit the alarm button, then attempt to start the car, it will start and I will be able to drive until the entire process repeats itself. I have it at the dealer now and after 72 hours, they still have no idea what's wrong with it. The dealer has said that their diagnostic equipment is identifying "communication codes to cluster" but I have no idea what that means. Any ideas on what could be causing my mysterious Mariner problem? I am in the Northern NJ/Rockland County area (if you have any suggestions for shops to try).

This weekend I'll be doing an 8km cycle followed immediately by a 4km run just to make sure, but I don't foresee any problems. [more inside]

The United State's Senate's "nuclear option" is, as far as I can tell, the threat of the majority of Senators using a Point of Order vote to claim that filibustering is unconstitutional. Republicans threatened to do it in 2005, and now there are rumors of the Democrats thinking about the same thing. My questions: If this happened, would it get reviewed by the Supreme Court? Would the filibuster be gone for good? And, if it is unconstitutional, why is getting rid of it such a demonized option?

I tried restoring it but it then gave me the msg "The iPod could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (1433)" and directed me to here. I tried the usual stuff recommended including: unplugging and replugging; trying new cord; holding menu and center button down for reboot; trying on other macs -- and still get the same msg. Although the technology is old, the iPod itself has hardly been used. Any suggestions? (Besides buying a new one.) Thanks for your input.

We run our own community theater company, and we have a lot of contacts – volunteers of all stripes, a couple of professional people, etc. Without detailing everything to the point of giving myself away, there were points along the way where we really thought we should quit, but this person was a friend, and we thought it would work itself out. Long story short, it has not. [more inside]

I seem to find myself in the same situation all the time - I'm friendly with a girl, and there seems to be a pretty clear sense of mutual attraction. But for whatever reason, I'm not really interested in dating them. Sometimes it's a shared interests thing - maybe there's one thing we have in common but share pretty much nothing else. Or maybe they're just really immature about some things. Or maybe they're someone I work tangentially with that it would be sorta inappropriate for me to date. Anyway, for me it seems like the attracted-to scale and the want-to-date scale are kind of independent. It's great when they line up, but often they don't. So how do I go about telling them that I'm attracted to them but don't really want to date? Or is that just totally unwanted? [more inside]

In this painting, a stately man sits at a desk, and there's a globe in the picture, but also a really indistinct object which looks wrong in some way - the perspective seems off somehow, its coloration - until you look at it from a more acute angle relative to the painting, at which point it makes more visual sense. It might have been titled 'diplomats' something or other.
