Now that Craigslist is not free, is there another board where can I find someone to help me with a small NYC-based php/mysql/odbc project? I don't want to use google groups - I'll be spammed for years...

You might wanna try the New York PHP List.

You could use USENET via Google Groups, but give a webform out for a contact info, which would prevent spamming.

Metafilter's probably not a bad place, either, whether via text ad or related question in AskMe. :)

What about Craigslist isn't free? This is news to me.

Yes, do you mean it's not free in a "philosophical, not-partially-owned-by-eBay" sense? Cause it's still free in a "doesn't-cost-anything" sense, I think.

There's still no charge for Craigslist. It's the same as it was.

craigslist fact sheet

Q: How does craigslist support its operations?
A: Craigslist charges businesses a small fee to post job ads in SF, NYC and LA.

Coincidentally, subpixel appears to be in NYC and would be posting a job ad.

If it's a small project I believe listing a "gig" is still free and there is a category for computers under gig.

Additionally, hasn't craigslist charged businesses a small fee for job ads for a long time now? Subpixel's use of the phrase "Now that..." implies this is some recent change in policy.

You could have that someone do the work virtually and post in Chicago.

subpixel: post in the Gigs section. that is still free.

gluechunk: they just started in NYC. they've been charging in San Fran for awhile.
