Oh Google, Where Art Thou?

I recently set up a language learning blog on Typepad which I am still developing, and to which there are very few visitors as yet and no inbound links. And now (sob) Google has dropped me.

Though the first few days have been indexed, nothing I've posted over the past 3/4 days comes up on Google. Do they crawl so irregularly? In a fit of enthusiasm I also signed up for Google Sitemaps a few days ago, which I now sense I shouldn't have done so early. So (a) why might Google have apparently dropped the site and is there any way of concretely finding out and (b) is it possible to remove a verified site from Google sitemaps and then rejoin Sitemaps at a later date, when the site has more inbound links of the kind Google loves? Thanks for any light you may shed.

You are too eager. Google will find you if you have legitimate content and don't look like a linkfarm/adfarm.

Get your content written.

Best answer: Google has the whole Internt to troll, so don't expect a call back from them in 3 (ghasssp!!!) days.

They only index your site as often as it has a track record of being updated. So if it's new, do what rr says and keep publishing. Eventually Google will notice that your site is updated frequently and speed up it's indexes.

Even then they may not index it more often than once a week (or less) if you're not a high traffic site.

Put your energy into publishing content. Next time Google swings by it will add all that new stuff to your index. And that's what you want.

Oh, and a) If Google actually drops your site it won't appear on Google at all. No past content, no nothing. And b) Don't bother, it won't help. In fact it would just send you to the back of the queue. Take a long walk or some deep breaths or something. That will help.

Takes about 6 months to get a decent google presence, in my experience. Unless you get /.ed, dugg or mefed.

Yeah, be patient. Once you have a few RSS subscribers on Google Reader, you'll get indexed immediately, but also, it might take a few months to get to that point.

Just keep cranking out useful posts and the internet will find you.

Speaking as a part of the TypePad support team, I'll just say "yep, what they said". It does take some time to build a good Google presence, and removing and re-adding the sitemap won't really help. You'll want to double check that all of your publicity settings in TypePad are correct (at Weblogs > Configure > Publicity), and as long as they are, you're building a good foundation.

1. Keep on writing good content, post regularly;
2. Read related blogs, leave thoughtful comments as often as possible;
3. Post in mefi projects.

Response by poster: I wouldn't have put this unless mairuzu had asked (no free advertising at Ask MeFi), but it's a Spanish learning site at http://www.spanishnewsbites.com. Thanks to all for their encouragement and interest. Content is king!
