Where can I take a nap in NYC?

I got an hour of sleep last night and all I want is a place to take a nap on my lunch break. I'd pass out on a park bench if I could but they're just so damn hard. Where to go in NYC (preferably around Union Square) for this?

can you sleep sitting down? Try the Union Square Barnes and Noble (cafe) or Dean and deLuca on University Place: order a coffee and look for a corner table. If you nod off there for 20 minutes it might work.

If you're willing to pay, you might consider heading to one of the movie theaters just off Union Square - might not be quiet, but it'll be dark. Or maybe the Barnes and Noble?

Do you have a co-worker with a car parked nearby? They might let you borrow the back seat. Or you could hire a cab/towncar and do the same thing, but that'd be an expensive nap.

bathroom stall ("stall-napping") or gym sauna. Look up the company MetroNaps in the Empire State building. According to this, http://www.portfolio.com/executives/features/2007/09/19/Napping-Centers-for-Executives
you can nap at the empire state building or in midtown.

Movie theater is the way to go. That's what I did when I needed to take a nap before an early flight and had no place to stay. It helps if it is a foreign film because you don't get too distracted by the dialogue.

Go to the Russian Baths on E. 10th Street and take a nap out on their sun deck.

now that the weather is great, bring a picnic blanket with you to work, and then on your lunch break walk up a few blocks up to madison square park (23rd & broadway) and nap on the grass. it's quieter than union square and great under the shade! plus if the lines are not too long, you can get lunch at the shake shack.

alternately: just do what i, a very dedicated napper, do whenever i have to go work in an office and learn to take a power nap under your desk. i've found that all i need is to have my body covered (a small fleece blanket or a winter coat) and my head somewhat elevated (the yellowpages suffice), and i can snooze for 15 to 30. bliss.

Under your desk.

Don't suppose you have a student ID from the New School or NYU? Actually, if you can talk your way in the door (prospective grad student?) you could nap in the lounge of the New School building on 5th Ave and 13th (east side of the street). No one would notice, let alone bother you.

Yelo is too far from Union Square. I second going to a movie theatre. Union Square Regal Cinema is really comfortable.

Blanket and grass, while it's nice out.

I've taken naps at lunch in Union Square, Madison Square Park and both movie theaters (Union Square 14 and Loews 19th St) that are close by.

I've always been intrigued by MetroNaps, but it's a little too far for me on my lunch break.

Hope you got your nap - or that you at least know that the quality caffeine is at Joe (on 13th St) or The Grey Dog's Coffee (on University).

I got two hours sleep last night and took my "nap" from 12-5 or I'd have seen this earlier and offered you my couch a couple of blocks from Union Sq - creepy! but comfy.

Response by poster: Thanks nicwolff ;-) And thanks for the suggestions everybody. I did end up going to the Loews (got a nice snooze through the first half of SATC!).
