7 days, 2 girls, $2k. We live in FL and want to go on vacation. Will prob fall back on the ol' standby, the funship cruise, unless you fine Mefites have some wackier idea we haven't thought of. We intend to party much and are awesome. Where should we go (1st week of July)?

St. Augustine was one of the best vacations I ever took.

Seven days may be a little too much history for little girls... but, then again, Mickey is about an hour up the road.

AloneOssifer, I think it's for two "adult girls".

How about Key West? Tons of bars and nightlife. You could watch the sunset every evening, roam the streets, rent scooters or bicycles, meet some interesting people, take a high speed boat (they serve beer ;-)) to the Dry Tortugas and snorkel and explore.

You could probably swing Cozumel, Mexico for that, if you're into scuba/snorkeling, beaches, Mayan ruins... (yeah, and drinking, etc.)

And of course there's always Vegas.

"little girls"? Wow.

Boston is nice that time of year. The days are long, the weather is generally good, they still party hearty, you can easily walk pretty much the whole town in a couple of days, and there is a ton of stuff to see/do. The cost of getting there may put a dent in your $2K, but maybe you can still find some deals, depending on where you are. And, as a college town, they know what girls who self-describe as "awesome" really like. You'll have a blast. Get to the Esplanade early, and sit near the cannons, down by the Charles, on the 4th.

Yeah, I'm all about the cruise (probably pretty obvious). I think they're solid value when it comes to partying, and Carnival's definitely the way to go for nightlife. (RCI's always dead by 11pm and never recovers. Totally pathetic.)

That said, Miami Beach is awesome for nightlife, food and sunshine. Service and hotel prices kinda suck, but it's hard to have everything. I used to go to Miami all the time for cruises but only recently discovered how great South Beach is.

What you save on airfare you can spend on fabulousness. =)

Puerto Rico. It's somewhat exotic, it's cheap (its active season is winter), it's part of the United States, and it's close.

I am on a "funship" cruise at this exact moment. I just disconnected from the hideously expensive satellite ISP to compose this, after which I'll reconnect and post it. We're on a 7 day cruise, just leaving the third and last stop in Ocho Rios, Jamaica. It's the first time my girlfriend and I have done one, and we both agree it'll probably be our last. We've found the food and entertainment to be pretty underwhelming, and since those seem to be pretty much the point of the thing, next time we'll probably just stay in a single destination where we've got a bit more freedom. You mention a cruise as the "ol' standby" so maybe you've already taken and enjoyed them, but if you're going on hearsay be warned that you may be disappointed.

Last year we spent an awesome week in a cabaƱa right by the ruins in Palenque, Mexico, which cost about $1700 including booze, meals, entertainment and transportation (from CA) for the both of us. Palenque's a small town and it's a ways from the beaches, but there's a pretty lively backpacker scene out toward the Mayan ruins that are the main attraction. It's definitely "roughing it" much more than a cruise would be, but if you can put up with a few big spiders and some fairly intense heat during the day, you'll get to see howler monkeys, a huge ancient city site, and meet a lot of people who aren't American tourists or employees of a big cruise ship company. Your question doesn't really make clear what you'd consider "wackier" than a cruise, but if you're looking to get adventurous I definitely recommend the less tourist-swarmed parts of Mexico.

Our flight arrangements left us with a couple days in Villahermosa, which was also great, but they had a massive flood right afterward and I have no idea how the recovery is going.

If you do wind up on the Carnival Victory, say hi to Bob at the piano bar for me.
