Co-op shooters/FPSes?

My sister loves playing co-op shooters. Can you recommend any? Our systems are the PS2, and a PC running Windows XP that was middle-of-the-road 3-5 years ago (so no Army of Two, thank you). Freeware/shareware/indie are great, but so are huge blockbusters. It just needs to have as long, good, co-op section.

How does half life 1 coop sound?

System Shock 2 has a co-op option. Download it from Home of the Underdogs.

Be sure to get the addons mentioned in the wikipedia article.

It's a action packed, story driven shooter with lots of scary moments. Great fun.

Serious Sam 1 and 2: excellent for some non thinking co-op ownage. Both can be had for cheap.

Response by poster: I've actually tried to get system shock to run on all the computers we have (except for this laptop), but alas, I could not get it to work. Either no sound, or I'd only get 30 seconds of movement before it crashed. Besides, she tends to get freaked out often, so I think SS2 is out.

The kinds of co-ops she's liked so far have been some of the James Bond games (which can have surprisingly good co-op), WWII shooters, etc. Her favourite shooter is probably No One Lives Forever, although she doesn't play it much--she only really loves playing co-op.

Thanks for the suggestions so far!

Hexen is fun, it's like Doom but with a fantasy setting and multiple classes. Old and will run on your hardware.

Also, I think XMen Legends is available on PS2-- not a shooter but a great same-screen multiplayer game with mindless monster-bashing.

Operation Flashpoint.

Terrific Co-op. Sweet Mission Builder. Old enough to accommodate your systems' capabilities.

Star Wars Lego?

Not a shooter as such, but a great multi-player game.

Seconding Serious Sam. It's a great first person shooter that you can do the entire game in co-op mode. It should run on older hardware.

Oh yea, x-men legends is a fun coop game and is available for the PC.

The PS2 version of Half Life has a dedicated co-op mode called Decay, featuring two female scientists. It's meant to be quite fun.

No One Lives Forever 2 has a co-op campaign. If your sis liked the original, I bet she'll adore the sequel, as I thought it was a much better experience than the first game. I haven't played the co-op campaign myself but if it's got the unicycle mission, it'll be totally worth it.

Check out the Timesplitters series. I played the 2nd one on Gamecube and it had a co-op mode...I bet the PS2 version does as well.

The Red Star for PS2 is a great, old-school shooter in the vein of Ikari Warriors and Cannon Spike, and can be played all the way through with 2 players.

Psi-Ops for the PS2 has an awesome coop mode. You both control the same character—it sounds awkward, but works swimmingly. You can't realize how powerful the character is until you have two people controlling him.

If you haven't already, you might try a co-op hack-n-slash rpg. My wife and I have played a few, and it's fun to have two completely different classes, plus you can share loot and all that. Champions of Norrath is a good one for PS2.

On PS2 I love Red Faction 2. I'm not sure the actual gameplay is cooperative, but in multiplayer yuo can set up all kinds of cooperative challenges that will keep you gunning forever.

Out of all the first-person-shooters out there for PS2, that's my favorite-- the designers keep the controls and the movement very simple and smooth, aiming isn't impossible, there are lots of fun explosives, and many of the architechtural structures in the game can be damaged or demolished entirely by your fire. I'd rather have all that in a more old-school game than one where you can hear the soldiers breathing and see individual blades of grass, yet it's a chore to move around or even find anyone to shoot. My bf and I have worn out our first copy of RF2 and are about to crack our second.

svencoop is the way to go. HL played co-op is one of the best games I've ever played.

Timesplitters Future Perfect has great co-op.

If you can run the first Halo on your PC, it's a lot of fun in co-op.

Battlefield 2. Its predecessor, Battlefield 1942, is also good and less resource intensive.

Doom I & II have co-op mode. You should definitely be using zDoom to play the game though (a LOT of modern functionality added).

Duke Nukem 3D has co-op mode. JFDuke3D adds modern functionality to that.

The Serious Sam games have co-op modes. My roommate and I played through the first one in a day. The second one was terrible in my opinion, but others apparently liked it.

If you like post-apocalyptic action games, Take No Prisoners has co-op mode. It's not an FPS; the view is top-down like classic GTA.

The Quake series comes to mind, and if I recall correctly Aliens vs. Predator had co-op as well.

All of my recommendations can be had for bargain bin prices on ebay/half.com. All will run on your hardware.
