Not-so-special effect

After Dye hit a HR tonight, they first showed him running the bases, then showed the fireworks, and then showed both on top of each other so that it looked like this. Is there a technical or industry term for doing this, viz., showing two different camera feeds at a time?

Best answer: You could call it a slow dissolve, perhaps. Don't know if there is a better term for a more permanent double exposure.

Best answer: I've seen the term "partial dissolve."

I've heard that effect referred to as a "half-mix" (in British and Australian TV stations).

Oh - and also as "superimpose".

"Superimpose"
The actual term used in the control booth is "Super".

Best answer: By viewing Bunglin and Thorzdad's answers at the same time, you can get the most correct one: It's a superimposition mix. Truly.

Best answer: Remember when the they are readying the Death Star to destroy Alderaan? One guy pulls a lever? (Here's a big example) It was a TV switcher and the lever is for doing manual dissolves/wipes/etc.

To get both of those images you can just start pulling the lever and leave it where it looks best... then you can proceed to end the dissolve either direction.
