I'd call Nintendo about it, they're pretty good about repairing. Cheap or free (minus shipping, sometimes,) usually. Is there any reason you didn't call Nintendo first?

I really think you should call Nintendo (1-800-255-3700) or click around their website, as they no longer have Authorized Service Centers that you can take your system to. Nintendo now does everything by mail.

Here's another vote for calling Nintendo.

When the graphics chip in my Gamecube died about a week before the warranty expired, they were still doing the Service Center thing, but all they did was verify the problem and make sure I hadn't done anything like taking a hammer to it. The Service Center kept my busted 'Cube and had Nintendo ship me a new(probably refurb, actually) one. I imagine the process is much the same now, only by mail.

Not sure what they'll make of a cracked faceplate, since it could be indicative of physical abuse, but what have you got to lose? Worst they can do is make you keep the busted one.

Also, you've tried multiple discs, right? When you get to the Wii menu, does it show the logo for the game you've inserted on the Disc Channel, or just a generic logo?

Wii modder here.

Yeah, call Nintendo. Especially if your problems haven't been cause by you taking it apart and trying to install a mod chip.

The face plate won't usually come up like that unless there's a screw missing. It would be an easy one to miss...a small black one that goes under the black plate surrounding the GC controller ports.

If that screw isn't missing, then you've got a bit of broken plastic there. Maybe it was dropped?

Anyway, DRE's (Disc Read Errors) are usually a problem with the DVD drive, and if you didn't cause it then Nintendo covers it.

Cheers!

Oh, some magic words that might help you with Nintendo:

"When I insert the Super Smash Bros. Brawl disc, it says it can't read the disc."

Nintendo issued an advisory to retailers when SSBB released, as it's the first dual-layer DVD game on Wii, and a small number of Wiis have had read issues with it. Nintendo blames it on cigarette smoke and other airborne gunk in the home, but has promised to cover all such cases.
