What is the best/cheapest way to get shots / spay and neuter 4 kittens and a mother cat in Toronto? No father to worry about... he left shortly after the young ones were born.
The kittens are 8 weeks old. The mother is quite young... but we're not sure how old she is. As far as we know, it's her first litter.
We're just concerned for the well-being of the kittens but can't necessarily afford to do everything through a vet.
The whole situation caught us a bit off guard... when the mother cat first started coming around, we thought she was a he. Then he got fat. Now there's kittens.

There are several Canadian resources for low-cost neuter and spaying listed on this page. At eight weeks the kittens are too young to be "fixed," but they are ready for their first round of shots.

PS If you intend to keep all the kittens, DO eventually get them fixed; brothers do mate with sisters.

Seeing as the mother wasn't already spayed, was she a stray you took in?
My vet reduced the cost after hearing mybrat cat was a stray that I was taking in...

If you're planning to keep them, getting them spayed/neutered is going to be a small drop in the bucket compared to what you spend on them overall. If you're planning to give them away, you can do it on the condition that the recipient have their kitten fixed.
This is major surgery. Only a vet can do it.
