Why oh Why is my wifi not printing?

Why does my printer say it isn't responding?
I'm trying to set up a new wifi network, and have connected my Canon iP5300 printer to the wireless router. I have installed the Vista driver for the printer on the laptop, which of course is running Vista.
I've connected the printer to the router, it's appearing when I look at the settings of the router, and it appears on my computer and I've set it up so that it is shared, and the computer has access to it.
However, when I click on the printers settings, and go to "Maintenence" and click on the "view printer status" it shows that the printer isn't responding, and the printer won't print any test pages.
I've followed all the instructions in the manual, however that was written for XP, so I'm not sure if there are any other settings that I need to change...
All help would be GREATLY appreciated!

This may or may not help, but...
After an update to my Apple Airport Extreme, my once functioning Canon iP1700 no longer worked. I got the "printer not responding" even though it showed up and could be accessed in every other way except to make something print.
The solution was to download the latest driver and update. Worked like a charm. So, I don't know if you are using the driver that came with the printer or one from the the support site, but it may help to make sure you have the most current version.

Some wireless print servers have difficulty dealing with things other than standard printing (like changing printer settings with the drivers).
Did you try just printing from a regular application?

Response by poster: I finally found the answer.
I had to click on a button saying "LPR Byte Counting Enabled" and then it worked first time.
