Where has my Google Apps IMAP gone?

Ive been using Google apps for your domain email over IMAP for a few months now. I use Thunderbird as my mail client. I just tried to send an email and I got a pop up saying:

"IMAP is not avaqilable for your account (Failure)"

So I logged into the web version and went to see if the setting had been accdentaly switched off. Imagine my surprise to see that the setting is just not there any more! I still have the option to get my mail over POP but where there used to be an option to get my mail by IMAP there is nothing!

Do google hate me? Why have they taken away my IMAP?

Response by poster: Oh well forget that.

It came back.

What a waste of a question.

I've been getting the same error off and on all day. The gmail google group discussions are full of people with the same error and vanished settings. I recommend keeping calm and carrying on, it's likely to be back promptly.

Response by poster: Typical. I spend 2 hours searching google to see if it had happened to anyone else before. Then 5 mins after posting on AskMe it fixes itself!

Does Google read Metafilter?

Mine disappeared too, about an hour ago. now it's back.

This is Google flexing its "Beta" muscles, I guess.

Heh, was wondering when a question would show up here. Had the same problem today.

Thanks for asking the question. My Gmail (non-Apps) IMAP went away earlier today then came back. It was weird but I wasn't sure what was up. Now I know.

I've seen this happen several times before in the time that Gmail has had IMAP access. If I'm not there to close all of the boxes popped up it will kill my client.
