Sci Fi Movie Quote?

I am looking for a movie -- but not a specific one. I want to get a sample of someone saying something like, "Doctor -- what is that...noise?" or "Professor, what was that sound?" I am thinking that something from a '50s sci-fi film would work really well.

So if you happen to know of a movie where something along those lines is uttered, let me know. If you can think of a movie that might have a line similar to that in it, and is worth watching in any case, go ahead and suggest that, too.

If this is still too much, I am willing to settle for more generic statements of bafflement ("What was that?") as well. But ideally not!

I don't have any suggestions yet, but you might be able to find something by searching this or this.

A Google search for filetype:srt will search subtitle files that are floating around the net.

You can search quotes at IMDB. Change the search function to "Quotes" and type some phrases or words in the field. From there, you might be able to track down a DVD or online file.

It seems likely you'd find something in old Doctor Who episodes.

Romana asks the Doctor "What was that noise?" in 'Full Circle'. I'm sure she calls him 'Doctor' somewhere else and you might be able to splice it together.

This was from me googling for Who, as I figured it'd be bound to have a line like that in it somewhere. I don't know the line myself so I don't know if it sounds as you'd like it to.

To get hold of the sound, I'd try asking in Doctor Who forums online. There's bound to be fans around with a copy of that episode who could sample it.

For the "Professor" quote, check out old episodes of Gilligan's Island?

Do you like Mystery Science Theater 3000? Because I'm pretty confident that a line like that appears in, like, a dozen episodes?

For that matter, The 7th Doctor in Doctor Who was freq. called "Professor". I third that asking in a Doctor Who forum would be very helpful.

This is very tangential, but might fit your needs (if you're looking for a sample to introduce a cool/weird sound). In one of the Godzilla movies (Godzilla vs. Monster Zero) there is a radio announcement along the lines of
Attention listeners, the unpleasant noise you are about to hear from your receivers is not a mistake. In fact, we urge you to turn your radio up as loud as it can go.
That's not exactly it, but close enough.

How about "Listen...do you smell something?"

From a bit of searching on IMDB

Scary Movie (2000)

The Killer: [on the phone] What's was that noise?

Spaceballs (1987)

Lone Starr: What the hell was that noise?

Village, The (2004)

Ivy Walker: What was that noise?

A fine Richie Hawtin DJ mix has the following clip from Evil Dead:
(horrible noise)
Some guy: What the hell was that?!
Bruce Campbell: Maybe something...trying to force its way into our world.

The nu-Doctor Who episode "The Doctor Dances" has something like this, although unfortunately there's a line of dialogue separating the parts:

ROSE: Doctor...
CHILD: I'm here. Can't you see me?
ROSE: What's that noise?

It happens just before the 9 minute mark in the episode.

Response by poster: Thinking of Doctor Who is very clever! I think I want something with less of a following than that -- I'll keep it in the back of my head, though.
