reinventing the quiz

Im producing a website for a client and they want a quiz on their site, but they dont want the ordinary multiple choice kind of thing. I cant seem to reinvent the genre by myself, so please hook me up with sites that display a novel approach to the quiz.

SurveyMonkey.com is excellent for unusual quizzes and polls, etc.

Free response? Matching? Short answer? I suppose I'm not sure what you mean by 'quiz' here.

Check out the Mental Floss blog -- they do a number of different quizzes. Some are multiple choice, some are matching, some are 'name # of X in # of minutes' type things. Their design tends to be a little poor -- I find the matching ones so hard to deal with that I usually skip them -- but their quizzes themselves are lots of fun.

Oh, I see - I mis-read your question. You're not asking how to administer an unconventional quiz, but how you might design one, yes? Sorry about that.

What Kind of X Are You? quizzes are quite popular. They can range from "Which Celebrity Super Star Are You?" to "Which Over Prescribed Anti-Depressant Are You?" and simply map a series of multiple choice answers to a stable of pre-determined possible answers.

It really depends on the client's area, though and how consumer-facing.

What kind of answers to they want to get from the test takers? Typed in text? That sounds very complicated to implement.

Questionaut from the BBC is probably the best online "quiz" I've ever seen.
