On the road again

I'm trying to book a tour from Chicago to the West coast and back, that will roll through Portland on the 23rd and 24th of August, and I'm wondering what the best route would be.

The tour consists of two guys with no name recognition outside of Chicago, who would like to book two types of shows:

1. Club gigs/dance parties/dj sets where we might be able to make some money.

2. Experimental/circuit bent/noise shows where we could have some fun and meet people and sleep on couches.

We want to book the tour for maximum fun/impact and as minimum a debt as possible, for a period of two to three weeks.

So, you're asking for recommended venues anywhere between Chicago and Portland that might book DJ acts this mid-to-late August through early September? That's a wide net... are you sure you couldn't provide more information about the places / audiences / crowds / genres / etc. that define your current work. Do you guys have a MySpace page or something? I think I'd map out the most likely route (perhaps that Google one is it) and then ask the all-knowing Green about venues in specific cities. It looks like maybe you'd be interested in knowing about clubs along this general route:

Chicago > Des Moines > Omaha > Lincoln > Denver/Greeley/Cheyenne > Salt Lake City > Boise > Baker City > Pendleton/Walla Walla > Portland

I gather that Portland date on the 23/24th is firm... do you care if that's the middle of your tour? There are several college towns in that list, and given your calendar you might be able to land some firm September back-to-school bookings from student events committees if that's not anathema. No idea how well they'd pay a couple of unknown guys from Chicago.

Response by poster: Yeah, I was more interested in a schedule/order of cities to take the trip in there and back, that I could then use to search for gigs. Sorry if the post was a bit ambiguous.
