Zinc countertop sources?

Can anyone recommend a source for zinc sheeting or zinc countertops in Canada?

We're exploring kitchen countertop options and have, of course, really taken to one of the more difficult options to find (so far). If anyone has any advice about zinc countertops, we'd love to hear about it!

Huh, interesting. I'm starting a hunt for zinc rolls for the same reason. I just found Flynn Canada Ltd. Here's their specialty metals page. They have offices across Canada and although they seem to deal with large architectural projects, they may be a source or a lead to a source for rolled zinc. Good luck. I'll be watching this thread with interest.

We put in zinc counter top (island) 3 years ago. I will call my carpenter to get his source. One of the issues with our island was that the sheets needed to be connected. Welding two pieces of zinc is not an easy process. Know too that zinc will stain and hold water circles etc. Over time we think it looks great. Others who mistakingly thought that is should look like stainless steel don't get it. We would do it again in a second. If you send me your emial to my Mefi mail address, I will send you a picture. Fwiw, we have cement counters and used commercial appliances. All of the cabinitry iis made from reclaimed chestnut or hemlock and reclaimed glass too.

Indeed, I've not heard of using zinc as a countertop. The only thing I know made of zinc is the skeg material on the lower housing [below waterline ] on my outboard motor, which gets eaten away first, before the lower end's metal and propellor due to.....can't think of the scientific term off hand.

Apparently it's quite expensive. $140 to $160 per square foot installed. Yikes.

Damn it looks good, installed properly. [from Soupcan.com]. Here's another one, double damn.//
Good looking copper, wow.

Sounds like a little high maintenance for its intended purpose also. Denting, because it isn't a solid slab and watch out for tomatoe juice, apparently. I totally got lost in there. Heck'uv a site.

Response by poster: Good luck on your renos, alicesshoe - and I'm not going to apologize ;) I'm envious that you're at the start stage - we haven't, as yet, entered the planning stage...

Thank you, JohnnyGunn - I appreciate the real-world answer. I'm aware that it stains and changes over time - I think that's part of the appeal! We live in a place that looks lived in and this is part of the attraction of zinc.

I'll post anything else I find out...
