Using a camera as a card writer in XP. Possible?

How do I mount a digital camera as a writable drive (to the SD card) in Windows XP?

I'm trying to upgrade the firmware (chdk) on my just purchased Canon A570. I need to write a file to the root of the SD card, but I don't have a card reader around. The Canon shows up in "My Computer", but I cannot change the designation in disk management. I know card readers are all of $5, but I really wanted to get this done tonight.

what designation are you trying to change? It sounds like it's already showing up as a writeable drive.

You'd think so, but you cannot write to it and there are no security settings. It shows up as being on \\.\usbscan0. I don't know how to map that.

Card readers are cheap and I don't think the canon will do this. (I am in the process of doing the same with my Canon S3, was that not the post of the year or what?)

NO kidding! I am so flipping psyched to do some super high-speed stuff! I got on craigslist and found this a570 for $100 with everything still in plastic and the camera having taken less then 200 shots. Awesome.....

PS I hope you're wrong!

You need a card reader. I got one on eBay for one dollar, including shipping. (I have an S3 too)

Best answer: Instead of asking your neighbors for a cup a sugar, ask 'em if you could borrow their card reader?
