Honeymoon hotel in Prague?

Can you help us find a nice, but not too expensive, hotel in Prague for a honeymoon?

We've figured out a honeymoon location for June of this year: Prague. Flights are not a problem, but there's so much choice in hotels that I'm rather lost now.

We've never been to Prague, and so far, our budget for the hotel, for six or seven nights, is 700 dollar / 500 euro in total (not per night, as a lot of the 'honeymoon packages' would like us to pay). Dear hivemind, are there any hotels in this price category that you could recommend? Or do we need to seriously rethink our budget?

Some background information: We've never been to Prague, so far, and are travelling in the last week of June.

Andels. They regularly offer very low room prices through lastminute.com and expedia. They also have suites which are apparently very nice, and still comparatively reasonable.

You've got to decide on the trade off between the luxury level of the hotel and how central it is. The company I work for does the Duo which is a nice 4 star but a bit out from the center, or, for the slightly more money but still under budget you could have the Residence Mala Strana which is slap bang in the center but a 3 star. The tripadvisor pages for both these hotels looks good. here and here. ps: If you use the password 2008discount on the advance search page when booking you'll get an extra £10 off. This all feels horribly self-linky so Admin please delete if inappropriate.

Last July I stayed at the not-so-accurately-named Novotel Praha Wenceslas Square, which actually is a 5-10 minute walk from the Square. Which I was totally fine with once I saw how packed and crazy and mall-like Wenceslas Square is. I'm not sure about their standard rates, but we got sick discounts at nice hotels in Prague and in Budapest (not so lucky in Vienna) through hotels.com. Am I allowed to say that? I swear I don't work for them.

Anyway, here is a picture of our room at Novotel. It was nice, clean, quiet, and the bed was comfy. And about 2 or 3 block walk from a good metro station.

Seconding Andels. We had a very nice stay there last year, and if you want to keep costs down, there's a non-touristy shopping center quite close by for groceries and stuff.

We also liked the Tulip Inn Terminus, which was comparably nice inside, but was surrounded by busier roads. Also more expensive, but we were able to book cheaply online while we were in Prague (after a side trip to Český Krumlov-- not because we wanted to leave Andels). Incidentally, this reservation was made from the computer in the Andels lobby, which was another nice touch.

My wife and I stayed here on our honeymoon, and it was a great place. Wonderful location (about a three-minute walk to the Charles Bridge), really great service, and a clean room with an actual bathtub.

Oh, I forgot to add that I think you need to rethink your budget. If you are willing to pay around $150 US per night, it opens up a lot more options.

I'd say your budget is a pretty low, especially for peak tourist season. The chances of you finding any deals at the end of June are slim at best. I often recommend this hotel to people since it's relatively cheap, nice and in a great location. It's within your budget.

I'd also recommend checking out this site. I've used it a couple times and found some great deals. You'll want to find something in Prague 1 or 2, unless price won't allow.

Andel is a really pleasant hotel, though I've found it hard to get good rates there.

You will do much much better on that budget by looking at apartments for rent. You can probably get a very nice apartment in the center of town for that price, and bc you have a real kitchen you'll end up spending less on food.

But really, if it were me, I'd spend a couple of days in Prague, see the big sites, and then get out into the country - Cesky Krumlov, Telc, any one of a number of towns in Southern Bohemia and the highlands towards Moravia are very scenic and romantic, and not filled with German tour groups and British bachelor parties, and out there you can literally rent a room in a castle for a couple of bucks.

I'd include links, but don't have anything that you can't find with even the most basic google search.

My 2 halers.

not to get too far off topic, but that budget is pretty slim for prague. i was there for seven days last summer, and i found it not too much, if at all, cheaper than NYC. so if you are committed to traveling on the cheap and have not made your plane reservations yet, you may want to consider other, less tourist-clogged central european cities. budapest, at least in my experience, was far cheaper, less crowded, and every bit as splendid.

Prague is one of my favorite cities in the world, but I'm with Randle - June is high tourist season, and you might enjoy yourselves more and keep the budget down if you spend, say, half the week in Prague, and half the week out and about in the surrounding, less crowded countryside.

Response by poster: It's been almost two months and I realised because of this thread I never followed up or said thank you. Well, thank you! I've looked at all the hotels that were mentioned, and we would have loved staying at something like Andell, but with our budget, that wasn't going to happen. We will now be staying at hotel Páv, for which we got a very good deal. For next time (not another honeymoon, but a holiday) we'll definitely try Randle's suggestion!
