Additional power source/ adapter for a Dell Vostro 1500?
I recently got my first laptop and would like to buy an extra adapter/power source so that I can have one at home and one at work/school.
Do I have to buy one of the ones that Dell shows on their site ($65-75) for my model or do I have less expensive options?

Seconding the generic/universal approach. The interchangeable plugs are bulky and make it very easy to break your laptop's power jack, so this idea is not without compromise.
BUT:
It's supremely handy, if you have a visitor who forgot their adapter, or if you're using it in the office and a coworker is inexplicably adapterless, to just be able to say "Oh, would you like to borrow my universal?"
Last year, I bought five of these adapters and stashed them everywhere. One in the backpack, one in the car, one in the living room, one in the lab, and one spare in the parts box. Being AC and DC input, they're ideal for travel, again with the "careful not to snap the jack while tossing the laptop around the back seat" caveat.
That specific adapter doesn't come with tip 35, and buying the tip separately is expensive, so that might not be ideal for your situation. But if you can find an affordable universal adapter with the appropriate tip, I think it's a great way to go.

additionally, any of these models has the same power requirements (19.5V at 3.34A) as the Vostro 1500:
DELL INSPIRON: 300m, 500m, 505m, 510m, 600m, 630m, 640m, 700m, 710m,
6000, 6400 E1505
DELL LATITUDE: X300, D400, D410, D500, D505, D510, D600, D610, XPS M140
so if you find a generic/universal adapter that can fit any of those, you should be set
