I want to find the right haircut.

AtlantaFilter.Help me find a good hairdresser in Atlanta - specific requirements inside.

I live in East Atlanta and used to go to the Helmet but have become disinchanted with my hairdresser. I am middle aged, have pretty good hair tho it is very fine textured. I used to get complements from every new hairdresser about my hair ("great hair!") but that has not happened in a while. I do not have any skill at "doing" it. So here is what I need.
- someone no further north than Buckhead. It is not worth it to me to drive to E. Jesus for a haircut.
- I want something cute rather than sophisticated
- price somewhere below Carter-Barnes and above Great Clips. Do not want to pay a fortune
-someone who is ok with me doing my own color. I do not want to have to fight the "let me do your color"every visit.
-someone who can give me a cut I can blowdry and go for the most part. I have tried every gel and mousse and nothing works for me
-someone who can work with a fat face - I am oveweight and cannot wear just anything
-someone who can recommend a style that would look good on me rather than me telling them exactly what I want. I don't know!

This is a tall order I agree. But you never know who has located the fabulous hairdresser who can give me the cut I want in this city. I know they exist, I just don't have the funds or time to try every hairdresser out there.

I can't speak to all your requirements (I don't know how my folks feel about doing your own color, though they've never said anything about me doing mine from time to time) but I like A Natural Buzz in Decatur (Scott Boulevard and North Decatur).

Annette or Sophia cuts my hair and I like them both a lot. I also have a round/oval face, prefer wash & wear, have fine hair and I've been very pleased. Not fussy, and flattering haircuts. A wash, cut, style, and blow dry runs about $40 iirc.

Also, they never try to hard sell their (Aveda) products. Most of the time they don't even say "do you need to buy ______ today?"

I don't use product, either... and I've always just gone in and asked for what they're interested in cutting on me. There are plenty of stylists that can give you a cut that's in line with how you live.

My best cuts were from Rockit, which has closed. Dana went to Flick - I haven't been there, but she's awesome.
Salon Red is close to you and good.
Soge did me right when I went there, to a couple stylists.
My last cut was from Van Michael in Virginia Highlands. Good, and I was told not to come back for at least 4 months... so there was really no upsell.

I only go to Salon Red in Decatur, and have gotten a decent haircut every time but once, and that was a result of me meddling.

Here's a Yelp review for one in Decatur:

When I lived in Atlanta, nearly everyone I knew used it. I never did (I'm too damned cheap!) but they loved it.
