Appleworks Dock Icon Annoyance

Why does the AppleWorks icon appear briefly (and then disappear) on my Dock when I start or wake up my iBook? This is making me ridiculously cranky. Help me minimise my raaaage!

Try deleting this file: /Users/~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist (where ~ is the short name of your user account).

This should reset the dock (equivalent of reinstalling it)

If that doesn't work, you might try running OnyX.

Also, check /Library/StartupItems and /System/Library/StartupItems and also, within System Preferences --> Accounts --> Login Items for possible leads. Good luck!

Are you sure it's the AppleWorks icon? Is it possible that it's the generic application icon? (Example here)

I mention it because if you're checking the login/startup items for "AppleWorks", you might not find it. It could be any number of utilities that you installed (or were installed for you by a 'helpful' program), so be thorough.
