Need a Perl or PHP script that does what del.icio.us does

Does anyone know of a Perl or PHP or Python script that can basically do the same thing that del.icio.us does? I also wonder whether the code of del.icio.us itself is for sale.

What are they doing that's so interesting?

Not tryin' to be a smart ass. I'm just not sure what you're after. All I see are bunches of bookmark-style links?

If that's what you're after, do a search of freshmeat. I seem to recall some stuff there along those lines.

You're free to ask Joshua if he will sell his code, but I doubt it. Maybe if you offered him a "price you can't refuse," but I'd be surprised.

I'd also be surprised if there was anything on freshmeat as good as del.icio.us. Remember, Joshua is the guy who single-handedly made memepool, and geourl, and many other popular Internet tools.

The thing with both furl.net and del.icio.us is the community of users. If you install a similar tool on your own server, you don't get the benefit of the community of users of furl.net or del.icio.us. That's one of the key benefits of those tools.

If all you need is a link log, it would be pretty easy to whip up a Movable Type template that does it. You might want to ask waxpancake or anildash about their linklogs, both of which I believe are powered by MT.

yeah, what feature is it that you want, there are lots of link management scripts out there, i would also think that some group blog metafilter clones could handle do something similiar with very little modification

I've got something of a linklog called ketchup that uses wordpress and a little custom hackery. Contact me if you want any details.

Response by poster: One thing that make del.icio.us unique and very useful for my particular use (for a fully Persian website) is its ability to make a list of "popular" links.
