MS Excel terror

MS Excel terror. Data saved but it is still gone. Where - if anywhere?

Made an Excel Sheet. Saved it. Worked on it a couple of days later. Saved it. Worked on it again today. Saved it. Closed it. Opened it again. All the last changes are gone.
Am positive that I clicked on the little disc-icon for "save".
Strange thing is:
The original file shows the 21st as date of last changes.
The shortcut-files (for example in the folder "recent") that Excel uses to open recent docs from within the menubar show today as last date of change. But of course they open the old version.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Are you saving it on a network drive or the C drive? If you are working on a file that is on a network and that network drive goes down it could cause a screwy result like yours.

If this is at work, and you've saved it to a network, ask your IT people if they can recover it.

If it's your personal computer, have you tried searching all files for *.xls modified in the last day/week? Also, is this Excel 2007 or earlier?

Response by poster: I already did the searches (file type, date you name it) you suggested and it was on a local computer (Win XP) on the local drive.
I guess it's just lost - dang!

Thanks for your ideas, though, appreciate it.

I swear that's happened to me before with Excel too. I got into the habit of saving everything twice and never noticed it since.
