Themed menu ideas

Can someone give me suggestions for my menu for one of my cooking classes?

I teach themed cooking classes each month, some examples of my previous themes are Alice in Wonderland's tea party, Bridget Jones Cocktail Party, Heidi's raclette luncheon and The Little Mermaid.

For my March theme I am considering "Little red riding hood's basket of goodies", my menu plan so far is...

Mini wolf burgers
Broccoli forest quiche
Red apples and brie cheese

I need a dessert item and maybe another red item. Everything has to be easy to put into an actual basket to take to a picnic at the end of the class.

So I am looking for something baked that fits the theme, preferably under 15-20 minutes cooking time, ie cookies or cupcakes or any other ideas please :) The students are not beginners and can cope with fairly complex recipes.

What a cool idea for a cooking class. I love your previous themes! I would take these classes for sure.

For your dessert item, how about these pretty Red Velvet Cupcakes (with Vanilla Bean Cream Cheese Frosting and Pastillage Shapes)? They fit with the red theme, and they would easily fit into a picnic basket. They also take about 20 minutes to bake, according to the recipe.

Cherry or raspberry hand pies. Mmmmmm.

For the unfamiliar, for each pie you need:

- a thickish raw crust, enough that when rolled into a circle it is approximately the size of your hand with fingers spread as wide as they will go
- four large spoonfuls of uncooked pie filling, flavour of your choice, gooey fillings should be mixed with a thickener so that they gel up instead of oozing

Roll out your pie crust into a single round, again slightly thicker than for a pie in a pan. Spoon the filling onto one side of the crust, leaving a margin around the edge. Fold the crust double over the filling, fold and crimp the edges. Add steam holes/slits to the top. Bake on a cookie sheet (at whatever temperature and until you feel like it's done, assuming you've used all ingredients that can be eaten raw).

How about Grandma's cookies? Can you recall a recipe from your own grandmother? If not, fake it with this recipe for Grandma's Oatmeal Cookies.

Response by poster: I want to use all these recipes! Thank you so much for your help. I think I will go with grandma's cookies for this theme and use the other ideas for a future class
