Looking to spend a romantic get-away weekend somewhere in Texas after the new year with my husband. Possibly January or February. We live in West Texas and would like to travel somewhere nearby and stay for a Saturday and Sunday. We do not drink, smoke, and will not be traveling or lodging with pets.
We would like somewhere close by preferably in Texas. We usually visit Austin, Tx for getaways but I want something closer and not so busy. Just for ideas when we do go to Austin the main things we do are eat at Rudy's BBQ, Wan Fu, and watch movies at Alamo draft house. We usually stay with friends there but I prefer something for just the two of us. Cost is a factor-hopefully something under $150.00 a night. Doesn't have to be anything fancy just away from home for a day or two. We have never been to a bed and breakfast, so i am not sure about that. Maybe a lake house that would rent for two nights for a couple? Any towns and/or ideas?

Although you say you want something closer than Austin, without knowing exactly where you are, other than West Texas, it's hard to know the distances. Can you tell us which town you're in or near? And how far from it you'd like to go?

Del Rio.
It's pretty much (exactly) Texas's Tijuana. I've never been there without family lodging, and I don't know what the town has to offer in terms of open ended-hospitality (a quick google search comes up with a number of B&B's), but I encourage you to go there for better or worse.
It's beautiful in landscape, anachronistic in population, and stark in contrast to it's Mexican neighbors. A really enjoyable/tad bit scary/telling as to the State of the Union learning experience.
Plus the stars are bigger than I've ever seen as a native Texan.

New Braunfels, maybe? It is chock-a-block with cute and the BBQ is out of this world.

You don't mention where in West Texas you are, so I don't know if it is close enough, but if you like the outdoors, Palo Duro canyon is beautiful and has some rustic cabins to stay in.

Do you have to stay in Texas? Ruidoso, NM, is really nice that time of year. Not exactly a bustling metropolis but cute.

Come on...San Antonio!
Anywhere on the river downtown. Last Christmas we spent the night at La Mansion (the site doesn't do the hotel justice). pricey though :(
SA's got Rudy's and the Mexican food is to die for.

How about Gruene? We like to stay at the The Gruene Apple Bed & Breakfast but it is not your typical B&B. It is adults only and they have themed rooms. Should be in the price range you mention, also.

Balmorhea state park. It looks a lot cheesier/touristy than it actually is (what do you expect from a Texas state park website). It's awfully romantic and I try to stay there every time I'm in the area. The pool and nature around it is fantastic, and the hotel is nice if memory serves. Also, not really a state park in how I think of state parks, because it feels more like a resort.
