What are the best movie + booze combinations?

After a successful Big Lebowski + White Russian movie night at a local theater to raise money for a local charity, my friends are looking for some suggestions for some other movies with specific drink references or themes that would be good and fun to have for a movie night.

Best answer: You already did the best one imaginable (at least to me).

Hah, I came in here to suggest the Big Lebowsi. The other one that comes to mind is James Bond and martinis.

Sideways and really good wine.

The shining and a "red rum" cocktail.

Henry V and Manischewitz, but maybe you had to be there.

Swingers and Glenfiddich, perhaps, single malt -- any Glen will do, really, as long as it's not a blend.

Best answer: Smokey and the Bandit + Coors

Any rotgut whiskey and Tombstone (AKS, "shots with Doc").

Or maybe cheap Canadian beer and Strange Brew.

Cocktail and cheesy, um, cocktails?
I haven't seen it, but it was the first movie that came to mind.

Best answer: Also, Silence of the Lambs and a nice chianti.

As far as Bond movies, specifically Casino Royale and the vesper martini. One of the few films that actually provides a recipe mid-scene, and then pauses while everyone comments on how great it sounds.

It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad World and old fashions
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas and Singapore slings (with or without mescal on the side)
Scrooged and highballs
The 40 Year Old Virgin and daiquiris (mixed with Clamato?)

The Lost Weekend and every old bottle in the house. The cheaper the better.

I recommend an afternoon Trailer Park Boys episodes with some rum & cokes.
A bit of pepperoni and/or some chicken fingers wouldn't hurt one bit.

A really big booze-themed movie for me is Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf?
"Martha? Rubbing alcohol for you?"
"Sure! "Never mix, never worry!"

It's all about the hard liquor, baby.

Granted, it's not as fun as watching Lebowski, but it's a great film all the same.

Ooh, along with the rum and cokes for Trailer Park Boys, also you need some Moosehead and Keith's beer.

Both brands are from that end of Canada and empties can be seen in various locations throughout the show.

Also, there is a movie so you don't need to rely on episodes.

"some booze" is also canonical I think, and easier to get hold of.

Old School, 40 year old virgin, Knocked Up, or any from that genre and lots of cheep beer. Keg if you can.

Watch Casablanca and serve the wide array of drinks and cocktails they enjoy. Off the top of my head I know they drink Champagne Cocktails, Brandy, Veuve Clicquot (I think they drink a '24, but you could get by with something more, uh, affordably contemporary), Cointreau, French 75's. I'm sure there are others.

Boy would you be hammered if you matched the characters on screen, drink for drink.

Seconding Withnail & I - with the finest wines known to humanity!

In 1971, Hunter S. Thompson provided instructions for how to read gonzo journalism, which Criterion included in the liner notes for their release of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. So I think it can be argued that these instructions apply equally well to watching the film as to reading his original work:

* Half pint, 10-inch hypo-needle (the kind used for spinal taps and inoculating bulls)

* Fill this full of rum, tequila, or Wild Turkey & shoot the entire contents straight into the stomach, thru the navel. This will induce a fantastic rush—much like a 3/4 hour amyl high--plenty of time to read the whole saga.

Other ideas:

Animal House and JD
Bound and the Glenlivet, Caesar's favorite
Cannibal! the Musical with "scotch, wine, and beer" just like the commentary track

MASH and martinis

The Charge of the Light Brigade and porter. (Black bottle! Black bottle!)

Raiders of the Lost Arc and vodka

I don't remember what they drink in Cocktail, but the focus is on flair bartending, which might be distracting while watching a movie!

I've done this, only we had to take a drink every time a shot was poured or pulled from the bottle. There was one episode where Al was feeling particularly down and out and carried a bottle around Deadwood with him for the entire episode. Every time he was on screen we found ourselves taking 2-3 shots along with him, hoping like hell his scene would be over soon.

CAUTION. This is not for the beginning drinker.

No shit.

Oh, and also, I forgot that I was going to mention any Charles Bronson Death Wish movie and cheap beers - taking a drink every time someone says "Mr. Kersey."

The Blue Velvet drinking game I've heard of is as follows:

Begin by drinking Heineken, as does Jefferey.

When Frank yells 'Heineken? Fuck that shit! Pabst Blue Ribbon!' switch to PBR and continue to drink.
