Missing music!

Ipod: songs not showing up in the “Artist” view. I can find them in a playlist but not by artist. - What’s up with that?

Through the years of attaining music in various ways the one constant in my library is Artist name – that is perfect (ie all snoop doggie dawgs match and are titled Snoop). I usually prefer to listen by artist and for some reason when I listen by artist not all of their songs that I have in my library show up under them. All of the songs can be found in their playlist but I want them to be available by artist. I have tried highlighting and renaming the artists to ensure they match but that doesn’t do anything. Any suggestions?

is the 'compilation' tag set and do you have your ipod set to not show compilation artists?

Response by poster: Wait I think this is it.

Crap - every song needs to have the album info in order to display correctly? I didn't think I was missing that many songs.

Is that correct?

Best answer: Yes, each song must be tagged correctly in order to display the info. There are extensive discussions here on the best way to go about tagging your collection but I would first suggest MP3Tag and Musicbrainz as excellent places to start.
