Where can i mail my Seiko watch?

I have a 15 year old Seiko chronograph watch which needs a new movement. Can you recommend a good, honest watch repair service to replace the movement?

the movement is available in the UK on a wholesale website. The UK site won't return my e-mails; maybe they only work with shops? The watch has sentimental value, but I don't want to get ripped off. I'm in L.A.
thanks

There are a number of reputable and very highly regarded individuals/small businesses that do this kind of work. You need to post the question on the Seiko/Citizen watch forum:

Randall Benson (sp?) is one such person who can be reached through the forum. He usually does restorative work, and can probably source the movement as well. He can touch up the bezel, and replace any gaskets as well.

One other thing: You want to include the model number with the question as well. Sourcing the movement will depend on what kind it is; 7s26 maybe or older- not real sure.

Your best bet is usually to find a local jewelry shop that does watch repairs (or just a watch shop, but they're harder to come by) that's been around a long time and has a good reputation. Ask around.

I'll add that replacing a Seiko quartz movement is usually easy-peasy work and requires relatively very little skill on the part of the watchmaker to do, so I wouldn't worry too much about the possibility of damage. If you find an honest shop, you're golden. They'll take care of you.
