Help me find a power supply in NYC

Where can I find an AC adapter with 18-24 Volt DC output capable of 1.5+ amps in New York City.

Preferably 18 volts, but anywhere up to 24 volts should work. I don't care about the connection type.

I've tried Radio Shack and a bunch of places in Chinatown. What's my best bet for finding this? Any borough, but Manhattan/Brooklyn/Queens preferred.

Thanks.

I don't know about in-town, but Mouser can help you.

You might have luck with a computer store. I would look for a replacement laptop power supply. That should come close to what you are looking for.

I think many home security systems work on 24 volts; that might be a lead to pursue. I'm in Ohio, so I can't get too particular.

Apple laptop power supplies are 24v, and the 65w ones are 2.7A. Yum-cha ones on eBay are about $35, the Apple-brand ones are substantially more expensive.

Sorry I should elaborate, Apple power supplies with barrel connectors (iBook, Powerbooks) are 24v, MacBook power supplies (magsafe) are 16.5 volts and probably a whole lot more expensive/harder to find generically.

You are so lucky to be in NYC. Take the A,C or E train to Canal street. Walk on the north side of Canal heading east. You will find what you seek in one of the many shops.

Sadly, Canal St is not at all the haven for parts it used to be (and the OP said s/he tried a bunch of places in Chinatown already). I would suggest calling one of the nyc consumer-electronics stores that hire clerks who actually know what they're talking about, such as B&H or J&R.

Response by poster: Hello,

I came close to finding what I needed in a Canal St. Junk shop. I have a back up plan now, but maybe I'll one of the stores allterrainbrain mentions. Thanks everyone.
