What's a cool "virtual" gift to buy someone? (ie. Something that doesn't come in a box through the mail.) Amazon gift vouchers are so passé.

A site subscription, like Salon, or Consumer Reports.

not sure this is exactly what you want, but you can use amazon indirectly as a payment method. i've bought cds from someone who burns them himself, paying by buying him something from amazon. he doesn't need to handle the hassle of processing my credit card, and i don't need to go buy dollars and hope they arrive in the mail.

so you can "buy" as a present anything hand-made by somone you can find on the net, paying via amazon. and hand made is cool (but not virtual, which is why this may not be appropriate...)

A few months of NetFlix works for some people.

If the recipient would be amenable (i.e., if they don't have to end up with something other than a warm fuzzy feeling), you could adopt a dolphin or help a village survive in their honor.

What rdr said. I received a six-month NetFlix subscription as a gift. Love it.

Response by poster: Unfortunately the recipient lives in Europe, NetFlix or similar is no-go.

Heifer International might be a way to go.
