Buy Plasma TV Now or Later?

Should I buy an LCD or Plasma now or wait until closer to Christmas time for the specials?

I am in Australia and we are currently enjoying a good spot rate against the greenback so I am considering buying a 42" Panasonic Plasma whilst the going is good. The question is, should I wait longer (until the end of the year sales) as I dont see the Greenback recovering in any great way before Christmas or should I get it now?

I think this is like with computers: no matter when you buy, a better deal will come along a week after that.

But if you wait for the best deal, you'll wait forever. If you wait for closer to Christmas, you might get a better deal, but if you buy now, you'll have it now and be able to watch it now.

Agreeing with Steven. I work, in a fashion, for a big box retailer, and there's never exactly a good time to buy. Great sales are on and off all the time. If the goin' is good now, then go.

I agree with Steven, also. Whatever money you might save by waiting until winter to buy the TV will be well worth spending to have the TV right now and for the next few months.

I just bought a 42" Panny Plasma and couldn't be happier. I went with the "Professional" line (no tuner, no speakers, more picture controls) which may not be for everyone. Model number 42PH10UK. I got it from Visual Apex, which came highly recommended to me from a number of forums. I pass along the recommendation; they are very helpful and know a lot about the products they sell, which really helps you feel confident when you have a plasma TV shipped across the country from some online store!

I would say buy it now, the holidays are still a ways off and prices have been fairly stable/low for a while.

Seconding lohmann, I bought the same display from the same place, and they were great and the display is totally gorgeous. The price has dropped - for what I paid for the 42" I could get the 50" - but seems to have stabilized.
