Want font.

I'm looking for a font that resembles those large-pixel digital signs. I'm sure there is a proper name, but I'm thinking of things like big stock tickers, those belts with the changing words on the buckle, etc. Each character should be composed of dots, basically. Help!

They're called LEDs. How's this for a start?

I would say Emigre pioneered this sort of face (click on "Fonts" and then "Lo-Res", say), really, although their typefaces are stylized versions of say, dot matrix printouts. If you're lookin' for something very specifically LED-like, it may not help.
