Missing font collections in OS X

OS X font collections have disappeared. Any easy way to get them back?

Don't know how it happened, but FontBook was open and then crashed - after coming up again, all fonts are present but the collections have disappeared. How do I restore the default collections? Google keeps delivering me to completely useless results (specifically, a ProQuest preview of an ebook that seems to have the answer but is conveniently "hidden" unless I buy it - and this result comes up too many times to filter it out.)

(Tiger 10.4.10, MacBook Pro, if it makes any difference.)

Pop the DVD in and replace the system files.

replace = restore

Font Finagler (free demo). Delete your font cache and restart. Works for me every time this happens, which is about once a month...

Run cache cleaning in Onyx and restart. Perhaps find the fontbook preferences and throw it in the trash too. (com.apple.fontbook.plist). Much easier than reinstalling!
