Help my dad not end up at the Greenpoint Y...

Surely there has to be at least one affordable hotel/motel/b&b in or near Williamsburg, Brooklyn?

My dad just decided that he is coming to visit me in Brooklyn for five days at the end of August. Being from a place of wide-open spaces, he does not want to stay with me in my Brooklyn sized apartment. He also does not have tons of money to spend on crazy New York hotels. I'd like to find somewhere cheap(ish) but safe for him to stay.

Furthermore, given that he's never been to New York, never used public transportation, and is a genuine mountain man, I would like to find somewhere walking distance from my North Side apartment or easily accessible by L train.

I've googled, searched hotels.com, looked at websites devoted to bed and breakfasts, etc and haven't come up with anything. All the B&Bs seem to be near Prospect Park or downtown Brooklyn. I have a hard time believing there are no lodging possibilities in northern Brooklyn.

Suggestions?

brooklyn is notoriously bereft of decent hotels. a quick google search finds hotel 17 in the east village, a couple blocks away from the L.

Use craigslist! Look under both "vacation rentals" and "sublets/temporary" and use Williamsburg as your search term. There are several for around $100.
This one looks promising (sorry about the no linky) http://newyork.craigslist.org/brk/vac/389494284.html

U might be lucky and get a deal on the Brooklyn Marriot. Or do what my cousin did and check out Craigslist for a short term rental.

Previous thread: NYC on the cheap. Some friends of ours from Switzerland (3 women in their 20's) stayed at the Chelsea International and had no complaints. It's not Brooklyn, but it's right by the subway.

wow, i live in greenpoint and i definitely dont know of ANY hotels/b&b's in the neighborhood. i definitely think a short term sublet via craigslist is the best option.
