Does such RAM exist in a single 2GB DIMM: 200-Pin DDR SO-DIMM DDR 333 (PC 2700) Notebook Memory?

I'm looking for a 2GB DIMM for my Gateway 7422GX, which supports 1GB Max RAM . I was hoping I could try 2GB and it might work even though it's not officially supported.

I only can find 2GB in DDR2, which I suspect would almost certainly not work.

Thanks, MeFi!

I'm pretty sure DDR1 only support 1G max capacity each module per the specs.
Does your laptop only have 1 or 2 slots? If it's 2, then 2 1G modules might work, though I dunno if your motherboard has the capability of communicating with that much bandwidth.

Response by poster: Sadly, only the one slot (which is why I had my fingers crossed for the existence of a 2 gigger)

2GB DDR sticks do exist, but odds are that if you did find one, your laptop either wouldn't work at all, or it would only give you 1GB of the 2GB to work with.

Any ideas where I could find one?

Best answer: No 2 GB memory module will work in your Gateway for the reasons b1tr0t gave you. It won't. Really, it won't.

But if you want to upgrade to Vista, you can take advantage of a new Vista feature, ReadyBoost that uses cheap USB flash memory thumbdrives to give you up to 8 GB of rapid access cache memory. This has the advantage of being both comparatively inexpensive, and officially supported.
